Soon to be Mk3 owner

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

Well took the plunge and ordered our 12th Skoda and 3rd Octavia.

We already have a 2016 1.2Tsi Yeti DSG (Our main car) and a 2012 1.2TSi Octavia Mk2 but a change of job circumstance means I need a motorway commuter for around 20k miles a year.

So my thoughts were a 2.0 SEL DSG at around 2 to 3 years old as I've previously had a 2.0 DSG Passat and ran that from new to 5 years old and 70k miles without any mechanical issues.

But a 2015 1.6TDi Elegance DSG caught my eye as the original owner had raided the options list and only done 20k miles. So it comes with Columbus NAV, Bi-xenons with AFS, Cornering Fogs, Winter Pack (Heated Screen, Heated Seats, Heated Washer Jets), Self Parking and a few other bits.  I was a bit apprehensive about the 1.6 but as mainly I'll be in traffic and sat at 70-80 on the motorway I was pleasantly surprised with the performance.

It's an approved Skoda used car so I have the 12 months warranty and 30 day exchange policy should I not get on with it.

I pick the car up on Friday so looking forward to spending some time in this section of Briskoda.

For my first question, this is the first car I've had with Alcantara seating. Other than vacuuming is there anything else I should be doing to keep the seats in good condition?

Congrats on the new purchase! Sounds like you've got a fully-loaded Octy there :) Winter pack is rare, and so is the Columbus on a 2015 car!

Low miles and Skoda approved - hopefully should serve you well. Show us some pics on Friday :)

It does sound like you’ve bagged a well equipped one, well done!

As for keeping Alcantara clean, it’s straightforward enough. Use a low foaming interior cleaner, like Auto Finesse Total, work it in with a small brush, then wipe away with a micro fibre, then hover a vacuum over the seat to lift the fibres up to finish the job.

Alcantara is a really nice material, it’s easy to maintain.

Nice B)

I went in to look at a Black Edition (1.6TDI DSG) and was very impressed with it.  Deal breaker was that they wouldn't resolve a large stone chip in the middle of the bonnet, otherwise I'd have bought it.  It was lovely to drive.  Saw the vRS the same day, test drove it the next, and the rest is history, but I really liked the 1.6 - more than I thought I would.
