Need other Keyless owners assistance please

Anyone have a MKIII Rapid or Fabia with keyless entry and start?

I have what I think is an issue but Skoda UK and the dealers tell me that it's normal across the Fabia and Rapid model platform.

After anywhere between 10 and 20 hours the keyless entry looses it's pairing meaning that you can no longer open the car using the touch sensor on the door handle, and can only use the remote FOB.  Each time this happens I re-pair the key and the system will work again until the car is not used for another 10-20 hours.

When the keyless IS working correctly, if you open the car using the fob and lock it again using the fob, it stops the door handle sensors working until you re-pair the remote fob again.

I feel like I am being fobbed off (excuse the pun) by the dealers as no other marque of car I've owned with keyless had a system that would lose it's pairing memory after 10 hours.

Does anyone else's system behave this way?  Can you leave your car a few days and still have the door handle sensors activate the locking?  Does your system need re-pairing after opening/closing the locks using the fob instead of the door handles?

Like I say, the main dealers are saying that Skoda have told them that this is how the system is supposed to behave across the Fabia/Rapid platform but when I pushed them to say do they honestly believe the statement they had just made, they went a bit sheepish like they know it's not really working correctly.

Nope .. not right.   Have never had to pair the remotes. Frequently leave the car unused for 2 days. No probs.

They need to sort what needs to be sorted.   How could Skoda have told them such tosh !

I own Fabia MKIII for more than 2 years already replaced the batteries on both remotes, never had to pair the remotes.

Is yours fitted with the sensors on the handles and the keyless ignition?

Well, mine certainly has full Kessy - door handles and keyless Ignition. Like zoharin: replaced both fob batteries. No re-programming.

Sounds like they just don't want to rub their brain cells together and work out what's wrong.

In order to discount the possibility that it is the fob batteries have you replaced the batteries in both remotes as Zoharin and Dithane mentioned? It may fix the problem.

If the problem persists then at least you can tell the Skoda garage it is something else that is causing the problem. Also how old is the car? If it is still under warranty then insist they run a diagnostic and fix it.

I believe the sensing range of the KESSY system is about 1.5m around the car so are the keys stored in the house close to the car? Perhaps on a window ledge which looks out onto the car parked 1 metre from the window? I am wondering if the KESSY key is constantly communicating with the car KESSY and confusing the system? If so try storing the keys elsewhere in the house.

Or buy a faraday bag to keep keys in which blocks signal

Actually if keys are that close you risk the car being stolen by thieves with a signal booster/repeater.  The signal blocking faraday bag will prevent this.

The car is 2 months old and has come from the production line so hasn't been sitting in a dockyard waiting for a buyer so I wouldn't think the remote batteries would be the cause (although it is something I will suggest to the dealer)  The dealer has asked for both sets of keys for the car while testing so maybe they have checked the batteries already.

The keys are kept away from the car - in fact, sending the kids out to the car to fetch items is how we realised that unlocking and locking the car using the fob loses the KESSY pairing information.

The dealer has phoned since and tells me that losing the pairing over time is actually mentioned in the handbook but I cannot find it (admittedly, my laziness means I've only read the section regarding locking/unlocking and KESSY so it may be buried somewhere else in the book)

If you look at the graphic above you will see that it mentions "strong electromagentic fields". I am wondering if you store your keys on top of a microwave oven (they generate high volts and power) and the emissions are damaging the key's electronics stopping it communicating with car properly. Or maybe you park your car near a high electromagnetic source. Just clutching at straws but thought I would mention it.

Car is parked near an electric car charge point but it’s been turned off since we got rid of the Leaf.

the problem can be recreated at the dealers 5 miles away so I don’t think it’s anything to do with the local environment.

i do appreciate all the suggestions though so do please keep them coming.
