Heated mirror not heating

Featured Replies

Drivers side not heating, bit of a pain in all this misty rain, any ideas why it won't heat up, before I start pulling bits apart?

Have you checked fuse 38 (5 amp)? If not the fuse, it could be a faulty heater element or broken wire/s in the door bellows.

Does each mirror have its own fuse then?

I don't think so but I wasn't sure if your car had only one heated mirror.

@Shubert My first thoughts on this would revolve around the door bellows or a burnt out element, particularly since AIUI the elements on Furbies are "always on" rather than only activated when the adjuster is neutralised and then the HRW is switched on.

I don't know what 90% of that means lol

The door bellows are these...

The element is integral with the mirror glass.

AIUI means 'as I understand it'.

awesome thanks

It's quite common for them to burn out if you constantly leave them on heat.

If I remember rightly they constantly stay on unlike the rear heater.

So they come on with the rear window heater, but stay on until you switch the car off? That's a bit pants if it is the case

Haven't you got a symbol on the mirror switch for them?

What I'm saying if you have you rear heater on that automatically turns off after a set time to avoid it burning out. The mirrors you have to manually turn off otherwise they stay consistently on.

There's a symbol for it on the mirror adjustment knob, I've always had it in the middle, unless I'm adjusting the mirrors, so how do I manually turn them off?

Leave the switch on a mirror.

There is a setting in VCDS to adjust the time the heated mirrors stay on, cannot remember the details off the top of my head but I adjusted mine to 10 or 15 minutes on as I always forget to turn them off.

It's VW's diagnostic program that you use on a laptop with an appropriate cable to go from laptop to the car's diagnostic port which is behind the little cubby box on the driver's side.
