ACC not available when using spare wheel

Featured Replies

I was on my way home from the Lake District one evening on a narrow road and was forced tight to the roadside and caught the tyre on a sharp stone which ripped a tear in the tyre. Fortunately i had opted for a space saver spare as a blow can would have had no effect. So I changed the tyre and limped some 3 hours at exactly 50 miles per hour to home. As you said the cruise control would not work so it was eyes glued on the speedo, and although lorries are constantly overtaking they are very courteous. It also said that tyre was low. After this experience I would like to go back to the full size tyre as a spare option.

Does the speed limited not work in this circumstance?

I did a little fiddling with mine while the spare was on. The speed limiter did still work so I assume that just works on the road speed only and doesn’t use any fancy sensors or algorithms.

dont know, my speed limiter is set  to 70 and on that day I didn't exceed 50 so didn't use it. Incidentally the space saver was on the rear not sure what I would have done if it had been a front/drive wheel.

If you had set the speed limiter to 50mph instead then you could not go faster than 50mph even if you pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor. I was not referring to the speed warning.

You don’t have it!

On the underside of the stalk that controls cruise control, there is a button. This switches between ACC functionality and a speed limiter. It is not obvious it is there.

There isn’t on mine. I think a speed limiter is no longer fitted to cars with ACC.

There is on mine and it was build in 2017 in week 38.

Ok well maybe it is fitted to newer cars then. Or version-specific perhaps. But after your previous post, I went out to the garage to check mine. Definitely no button under the stalk and no speed limiter. Mine built early 2016. Presumably yours has adaptive cruise control, as opposed to ordinary cruise control?

Yes mine has adaptive cruise control. But why suggest someone else can't have it on theirs?

Because the chap's car is a similar age to mine - about 6 months younger - and so probably doesn't have it. Looks like they introduced the speed limiter on MY17 cars, but they weren't on the MY16 cars. Which is odd because I think they used to be on the much older cars! Maybe they removed the speed limiter and people complained, so they reintroduced it for MY17? I had a look at the latest online manual, which shows the button you are talking about. However the manual for my car doesn't show that button.
