Steering judder

Featured Replies

Hello new to the site and to a Skoda VRS DSG

I bought this car a few days ago and im really pleased with it.

However I have noticed a couple of things.

1. The idle seems quite high sitting on 1k I have read that this could be doing a regen but i drove this car back from Glasgow back to surrey so around 450 miles at high speed so unsure if it needs a regen.

2. on reversing into a bay at work the steering wheel starting juddering in my hands so wondered if anyone had come across this

Thanks

Chris

@chrisvectra

1) Only applies to diesels, but seems unlikely even then after a Glasgow - Surrey motorway tag.

2) Not a scooby, but check the PAS fluid level; it's cheap to free to do and just might work.

could do with a bit more info on this:

year, engine code, gearbox code,

have you scanned it for codes?

when was the box last serviced?

  • Author

Its a 2011 2.0 diesel with a DSG box last serviced approx 4 months ago all oils and fluids changed including the DSG, I havent scanned it for codes as of yet as I have no warning light on the dash but I do have VCDS so can scan it.

@chrisvectra - You say "recent full service". Who by, in case the Scots know something about them?

 It was done by Skoda

There's more than one Skoda dealership in and around the Glasgow area.

Off the top of my head I don't know but a bit unsure why it matters. I just wondered if anyone has come across these issues

Sticky or juddering steering while turning lock to lock could be outer or inner track rod ends dried out or worn.

The steering wasn't sticking it was more like a judder but only in reverse not going forwards otherwise the steering feels ok

It wasn't just a bit of rough ground was it, or maybe ran over a large stone / stones or something like???

And just because it was serviced by Skoda doesn't necessarily mean it was done correctly.

Many folk on this forum know the Skoda dealers that they would recommend, and others that they would not, this is why people ask questions.

Did you buy it from the Skoda garage??? I guess not as you do not know where it was serviced.

Thanks for your reply.

did the same journey this morning and reversed into the same bay and it was fine no juddering also the idle has dropped to where i guess it should be as it was well under the 1k

I wouldnt know if the dealer in Glasgow was a good or a bad one but the previous owner didnt say if he has had a bad experience with them.

I bought the car privately so I cannot remember off the top of my head what dealer serviced it

Chris

Sorry for this but i would be a little suspect of a private car being serviced with all fluids changed just a few months before selling. It can happen as circumstances change though.

IME they usually are being sold because all these jobs need doing, but the seller doesn't want to pay out.

Hopefully you checked it out and you have purchased from an honest seller who just wanted to sell a good honest car to a good honest person, and you paid a good realistic price.

Good that your immediate issues have sorted themselves.

Has the car had the 'Fix; carried out.

You would hope Henry's would do good servicing.

You can fully expect that Parks & Arnold Clark Servicing needs checked out by a competent Technician / mechanic.

The guy I bought from was very open and honest about the car and the car has been very well looked after with every invoice and mot and history from when the car was made.

I am very happy with the car and the price I paid for it.  The only reason the car was up for sale was he had upgraded to the new Skoda VRS (lucky sod).

after doing some reading it seems the fast idle might have been the car doing a regen but id driven the car from Glasgow to Surrey some 450 miles so wouldnt have thought it would need a regen.

as for the steering judder I am at a loss unless it something to do with the car doing a regen at the same time as its not done it since.

this is my 1st Skoda so was asking on the forum to see if any one else might have come across these problems.

No there is a disclaimer in the service record as the car has a Revo stage 1 map so its not had that device sorted lol

OK, worth mentioning that your car is Remapped then when asking on issues you are having.

can I ask why? A remap  wouldnt cause these issues I was experiencing

If you say so.

??

What i mean is do not rule things out, and if asking advice best give the info you have.

?

Do you have the receipt for the Revo Remap, know who did it and when, and can you be sure still on the ECU even if a car did go into some Glasgow Main Dealer or other workshop that The Fix was not carried out?

I know places that did do it because the Techs / workshop managers do not care about doing it.

Ok I get what your saying.

I do have the receipt for the Revo Remap and I do believe the map is still on the car as I had the same engine in a Audi A3 S-line black edition and this car would leave that for dead. The in gear torque is fantastic

The guy I bought this car from was quite fussy with it so was careful who serviced it and what they did to it. The very reason I bought it.

Anyway thank you for your input.

?

Where was the remap done,

and which Skoda Dealership did the last servicing?
