Headlamp Beam Converters

Featured Replies

My new Octavia is on its way, and I want to get some beam converters for it for driving abroad. VW made some headlamp protectors with a black mask so that you just clipped them on or off when driving in continental Europe or the UK, and I had hoped that Skoda's ZGB 170 072 100 "Headlamp protectors and touring converters" were the same. But my dealer tells me that Skoda don't provide anything like this.

Do they still exist??

What do you do?? I don't fancy sticking masks on the headlamp glass, and having to replace it on every trip!!

Chris

Is it an Octy 2? On the Octy 1 you could buy the headlamp protectors and then stick on the silver beam-blockers - as long as you had the right template. Have you tried going for the two separately?

Seem to remember you can't use convertors with Octy 2 Xenons.... Now remind me, what was the answer that didn't require disassembly of the front end?

Hi,

It's the Mk 2 Octavia - without Xenon lights. Perhaps the brochure I saw was for the Mk 1 and they haven't found a way of mounting headlamp protectors on the Mk 2 yet??

Chris

Then I can't see why you can't buy the headlamp protectors + stick-on beam blockers. Ask your supplier?

Apparently Xenons shouldnt use the converters as the auto-adjust may still cause flicker - that's when I asked about it recently on this site anyway.

In reality though, I've not had any trouble as the adjustments are always downward from 'blinding position' so the beam blocker should work.

I've used the continental converters for the non-Xenon version (Fabia) without any trouble, even got the local police in NL to check it out and they said it was fine (know a few peeps in NL where I used to live).

Without Xenons you should be able to purchase converters from Skoda, it's a bit surprising you cant - unless it's got those built-in headlight washers I saw on the Edition 100 in the showroom a week ago, where it's kinda built-in to the headlight assembly itself rather than in the front bumper, perhaps that makes it difficult to provide a strong-enough cover

Thanks all,

I've emailed Skoda customer support as well, so hopefully will find out if the ones I've seen in the brochure are still available.

Can't imagine there's any feedback from the headlights, so how could the auto-adjust cause flicker? Surely it just takes a feedback from the suspension?

Yep I agree with what you're saying and I don't get why it would cause any trouble whatsoever (thus the reason I've been using these Euro-converters for the past year) - it's just someone posted that in one of the threads about this subject a while ago. Considering the daily 'getting blinded by foglights, badly adjusted normal headlights, etc etc' I'm personally not going to loose any sleep over it though :D

Having now collected my new Octy, I found that the new accessories brochure no longer includes the headlam protetctors/beam converters. It seems the ones mentioned in my older brochure were for the Mk 1 not the Mk 2 and were left in by mistake. Seems the only solution offered by Skoda are sticky plastic masks :-(.

Only driven 40 miles so far, but it seems a great car (L&K 2.0 TDI)

Halfords own brand. Diagram 8 is the correct one for the Ocky 2.
