A first: remap with warranty!

Featured Replies

Holland has a first: Seat dealer Van der Velden (also known as VAG tuner tuningparts.nl) has set up a cooperation with remap company JD Engineering, owned and run by Jeroen Dik. JD is the Jabbasport of the Netherlands, and in fact the two have been known to cooperate on several projects.

Van der Velden has now decided to turn JD's 210 and 230hp packs into its new main 1.8T tuning products (replacing SKN's chips) while continuing the full-warranty scheme he set up with SKN.

JD will work with replacement chips with a standard programme which will be tailored to the customer's needs through spirited runs with the laptop on board... So I present to you - the World's first custom remap without any warranty issues!

Perhaps Skoda UK could make a phone call to tuningparts.nl? ;)

If I read this correctly, Mattijs, this is an independent dealer arranging this partnership, not Skoda NL, so Skoda UK are unlikely to be interested, n'est ce pas?

Edit: presumably some kind of 3rd party insurance based warranty is being substituted for the manufacturer's one?

Good question - presumably yes. Will have to ask him about it. Nevertheless, he is a main dealer for Seat, Audi and VW so I suspect that there will be some involvement (or either consent) by Pon, the Dutch VAG importer.

The real problem comes when something blows which Skoda claim is down to the remap and the tuner claims is a manufacturing fault ! :(

Well, Van der Velden claims that he will even replace a clutch under warranty! Of course a clutch is a part hardly affected by performance. :D

Right, here's the deal. It's full warranty take-over inked down in a contract, including one year of free repairs of parts that have failed because of the upgrade.

Cost is 750 euros for a 210hp/320Nm conversion - compared to the 1200 euros I paid for the warranty chip by Oettinger. The 850 price tag for the 230hp mod is nagging me even more - they should have done this a year earlier! :(

Oh well...

Here's the pricelist: http://www.xs4all.nl/~jdengine/CHIPlijst033.html
