Lease return date, how flexible?

Featured Replies

Hi All.

Some of you may remember I leased two Yeti's in the summer of 2016, one for myself/wife and one for my Dad. He'd always wanted a Yeti and the lease deals were too good to turn down.

Sadly in Feb 2017 he was diagnosed with cancer and had his licence removed and in October 2017 he passed away aged 75.

We kept the car on for my Mum but insurance has been quite high due to her age, it being a lease vehicle and she never having held her own insurance before.

So the lease is due to end in June of this year and we intend to pay all the payments and keep it until June. The final date for collection will be the 7th July but we really could do with them collecting it at the beginning of June so she does not have to pay another high insurance and possibly another service.

Has anyone any experience of this? We are not considering early termination of the finance agreement just an earlier collection date.

I'll then be sorting out a little Citigo for my Mum.

Thanks

Lee

Speak to the lease company they may be happy to terminate early or just collect early. No one else knows what they can or will do.

Some lease companies will give up to a 50% discount if you hand a lease in up to a few months early.

Ask them for a final quote based on the date you want to hand back as it's pretty common.

You can do it online at  www.vwfinance.co.uk  if you have a lease paid through VWFS

The lease company is VW Finance.

I don't want an early termination as we'll pay the last 5 payments as they are only £99 a month.

I know other members on here have had VW Finance leases so all I was trying to get a feel for is how flexible are they on collection. Do they just give a single date or can you pick a date over a few weeks?

Obviously they must account for holidays and work commitments.

I can ring them Monday but as this is a forum with members that have already gone through this process I was just after some experiences.

Thanks

Lee

They are flexible. The only times where they get short of collection dates is around new reg weeks.

Sorry about the loss of your dad, I lost mine last year as well.

Usually financial companies are fairly flexible after a bereavement

Sorry to hear about your dad.

I had my last car (PCP deal) collected on the last day of the month prior to enable me to get a tax refund for the whole month even though the finance deal was not actually up until the 4th of the following month. As long as you give them plenty of notice they should be able to accommodate you.

Just a note that if yours is a PCL deal then the tax issue won't apply, but if anybody else is attempting the same to save a month of road tax, posting your V5 on the last day of the month won't work. DVLC have to have RECEIVED your V5 ON the last day of the month. Proof of posting is not enough. I did not get a full refund of tax :-(

What I did not realise is that you can declare a car sold online on the last day of the month https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle and still get a full refund even if you don't post the V5 straight away, but it only works during some hours of the day.

Hi Lee,

sorry to to hear about your dad, these things are never easy and there’s always so many things to sort out.

I guess if you lay your cards on the table with the company they may well be quite understanding and give you the flexibility your looking for.

Hope you get it sorted.
