Wipers working randomly and stopping anywhere

Featured Replies

Hi,

I went through the forum search and I couldn't find the solution of my problem, only suggestions and suspicions.

The wipers in my Octavia '99 Estate operates in unpredictable way. They sweep such many times as they want but eventually stop. For instance when I switch to single wipe they run 6 times, when I set the slowest intermittent they keep sweeping for 8 times and when I switch them off they still run several times more.

Another issue is that they used to stop in any position, vertical, 45degrees or an inch above the base.

Could you tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

Cheers,

Rob

It's most likely the wiper relay.

This is located somewhere under the drivers wheel if i recall correctly and not expensive either :)

Not replaced a relay yet since the Octavia has been out, but have replaced plenty of motors.

It will be the motor, fault with the parking switch.

Sounds about right.

Mine developed the "random wiper symdrome" which got worse slowly over a few months till they gave up completley.

Linkage and motor.

115 pounds to put right.......as a guide on price.

A motor I agree.

I have a slightly different problem on my 02 vrs. Sometimes - usualy when its wet i turn the wipers on and they move about 3" then freeze. They stay like this for about 40 seconds and then start working fine. Its had all the linkages cleaned. It doesnt always do it though, and whenever i take it the deaer it behaves itself. What do you reckon? Motor? its had a relay put in.

Had my x reg Octavia in to main dealer for the 3rd time to sort a similar problem, intemittent wipers stopping, fast speed was working ok but its started cutting out too. Dealer fitted relay - no change... I guess ita a motor job - shame the delears cant work it out.

mine was like that. Dealer changed the motor and all is well.
