Driver wiper leaves water along the blade

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just replace my front wipers in my Octavia '99 Estate as I though it's gonna sort out the problem with driver side one but it wasn't that.

The problem is when it operate the water is not being swept correctly. It looks like the wipe jumps over the windscreen when it goes back. It results in water left on the windscreen on about 1/2 of the sweeping area. It looks like circular stripes on the way the wipe operates.

Any clue?

Cheers,

Rob

Checked the wiper arm to make sure there is no debris in it and that the spring is ok etc?

Just a guess but that worked on a citroen I had.

Did you replace the wiper rubbers or complete blades? I have recently had a similar problem with the rear wiper of my Felicia. The wiper arm needed lubricating where it swivels upwards on the end fitting so that it was free to move and allow the blade to follow the contours of the rear screen. Perhaps you need a new wiper arm - cost circa £28.

Well, its new rubber, so that is odd? New rubber shouldn't have a problem doing the turn at each extent of the sweep.

Is there cr4p on the glass that might not be obvious? Maybe a good polish of the outside would help. Definitely worth checking the power of the spring which keeps the wiper blade in contact with the screen. :)

Since I swapped blades on the front, I've been enjoying a very good quality clean screen. I still get the odd "C" bit on the extreme end of the sweep, but that goes eventually.

Are you sure the wiper's at 90 degrees to the screen? If it's taken a set in one direction it won't flip over properly. Worth trying a gentle twist to get it at right-angles.
