Bulb out warning

Featured Replies

Just had my car in for taxi test, and sods law, a headlight bulb blew while it was being tested, so fitted a new one , I asked about LED and HIDs, the tester said no problem as long as both headlights are the same colour, I also asked about LED and that some throw up a bulb out warning, he said the bulb out warning is not part of the MOT test, as long as the headlights are working.

I know the bulb out warning would do my head in so now looking for a good set of H7 LED or a good HID kit for reflector lenses, any recommendations???

Please don't fit HID or LED lighting to your reflectors, both will cause glare to other road users.

Regardless of whether they'll pass an MOT or taxi test, conversion kits like the ones you are considering are not road legal.

If you want better lighting either retrofit factory xenons, replace the car or fit optics designed for HID/LED and any additional systems needed.

As above, beam pattern is usually terrible in reflector units; glare everywhere.

Not wanting to jump onto the aftermarket HID bandwagon, but, I’m sure I read recently that aftermarket HID or LED kits are going to be an MOT fail very soon (along with other changes). It’s up to you to make the decision though.

Fitting HID to headlamps not designed for them will only pass the MOT test until May 2018 when new MOT Guidelines are being introduced.
