Buyers Advice Skoda Favorit Outside UK

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am in the market for a Favorit - but outside the UK. Since I live in Sweden, and Favorits was never sold new over here I am looking to import a LHD one from another country.

Does anyone have any advice on sites or countries I should be searhing? And what model/trim is the one to look out for?

Thanks :)

I've spotted a few on mobile.de

That's a german car selling website, maybe you can find something in northern germany?

I don't know a lot about Favorits, maybe you can check out some posts on briskoda? Maybe someone has already posted a list of trims.

Thanks for the tip!

When I was looking around, I found a good looking example in Poland: https://www.otomoto.pl/oferta/skoda-favorit-jeden-wlasciciel-od-nowosci-64000km-ID6zxEBz.html#633e920df5

Is this something to consider? As in buying a car in Poland? Or even the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Belgium, Austria (if they where sold there), etc.?

I've got some more info on the trim levels now, thanks :)

Oh, and does anyone have any tips for websites that you can searh for Favorits in the countries mentioned above?

I can already tell you that there are barely any in Belgium for sale... There was a duo for €500 a year ago, still bummed that I haven't bought em. Here's a link to the salespage of a Skoda Club from the Netherlands.

http://www.skodaclub.nl/advertenties.htm

I can translate to english when needed.

Belgium: 2dehands.be

autoscout24.be

The Netherlands: gaspedaal.nl

Germany: mobile.de

Those are the sites I use to browse Felicia's.

Also, here's a belgian search engine to find cars all over europe, should be directed to all pre 1995 Skoda's immediately!

click this

Not all sellers can read the name on the documents/boot of the car properly :D

Some prices are astronomical, yeah. 22 grand for a Favorit, no thanks. It looks great though.

Favorits aren't very common in the streets of Belgium, there should be quite some sitting in garages or car graveyards though. It's all about finding them...

Here in Finland nearly all Favorits and Formans have been deleted..

Occasionally one or two appears for sale.

Two common places to seek from Finland are these marketplaces:

https://www.nettiauto.com/skoda/forman/9424171

https://www.tori.fi/satakunta/Skoda_forman_42967081.htm?ca=18&w=3

Here in Czech there are probably unsurprisingly a few for sale. A lot I guess don't sell because of the eco tax that was introduced you'll pay more for that tax than the car!

There is one site here for example, the issue may be with the language barrier.

Thank you so much everyoe for the replies! I have been busy with school, not able to write something here sadly. That is a lot of new websites to search for Favorits on! :)

However, would anyone buy from Poland? (One very nice looking and cheap one that I've posted before: https://www.otomoto.pl/oferta/skoda-favorit-jeden-wlasciciel-od-nowosci-64000km-ID6zxEBz.html#633e920df5) Since Poland is so close to Sweden (via ferry) I think that it would be cheaper to get it to Sweden. Is that something to recommend or should I buy from somewhere else?

It depend if you in Sweden also have high import taxes like here in Denmark. in Denmark, when you import a car from an other EU country, you pay between 50 and 160% of the market prices in the home country. Plus you have to do a new MOT test

Well, since the Favorit never was sold in Sweden as new, then the only real choice I have if I want a Favorit is to import one. I have done some searching and found out that it's actually quite cheap (i guess) to import a car. You have to pay VAT (value-added taxes), which is 25% of the cars value in Sweden. If the car is newer than 6 months or has driven less than 6000 km, you have to pay VAT in both Sweden and the chosen country I bought the vehicle from. And since nothing other than a museum piece has less than 6000 km on the clock, I think it's unnecessary to look up the VAT in various different countries.

Then there is some other things to pay. I don't want to translate the whole text step by step, since there is alot, but I can link to the site I gathered information from: http://teknikensvarld.se/importerabil/ (in Swedish, I can translate if needed). For short, it will cost approximately 3200 SEK, or 2300 DKK, 300 EUR or 270 GBP, excluding VAT, road taxes and the traveling part. And yes, a new MOT is needed, and included in this cost.

It looks more and more tempting. However, is it hard to find parts? I've seen that they have gotten super rare. Is that because of a decreasing amount of spare parts? Would it be hard to keep a Favorit running in a country where they were never sold as new?

(And is it hard to import cars from countries that aren't that popular to import a car from? Like from Poland, Czech, or maybe even the Netherlands, Austria, etc. (I haven't come across cars that are imported from those countries, although, the family's Mazda is imported from Luxembourg, but not by us). I have searhed but not found anything useful).
