Fuel Gauge Issue - Advice please

Featured Replies

I filled up today ( Mk3 190 L&K 4 months old) & noticed after turning on the ignition that the fuel gauge went up to the last mark before full but not to full. If I check the computer range it is right for a full tank, but gauge not going to full when its full.

Any advice how to sort this. Is it a known issue?

Thanks

I´ve had that once in my Superb 3T, because I filled it up with the engine running / ignition on. It solved itself on the next time I filled it up.

Not being from UK, and thereby not seeing the danger in everything, what do you mean? There’s nothing wrong in filling up with the engine running.

I think it’s still the law to turn off the ignition in various regions. Also a requirement to stop using a mobile phone. It’s more of a risk with petrol obviously… pulling in with a toasty Cat or a dodgy HT lead etc.

I worked at a gas station after school in my younger years, and have yet to see any "action" from filling up with the engine running. Leave that alone; I just shared my experience with the fuel gauge; take it or leave it :)

I still remember a cartoon of a Cadillac being filled up and the man filling it was asking the driver to switch off as the car was gaining on him.

Was the back of the car loaded? I've noticed in mine that if there's heavy stuff weighing down the back this will happen. The rest of the time it indicates full.

It wasn’t. The car was empty.

Thanks

This clip (out today) reminded me of this thread

Refuelled & it behaved itself this time.

I will watch to see what happens on the future.

Thanks for all answers on & off topic!

Mine did the same with an empty boot this time. So it does seem to be an issue.
