VRS Tyre Options

Featured Replies

Hi All

This has probably been covered many times before but cant find anything directly relating to my enquiry.

I am in the market for 2 new tyres for the front of my Mk3 184 Vrs.  What do you guys recommend based on these points:

  • Long lasting - mainly used for motorway driving
  • Good for all weathers
  • Not overley noisy

I have currently got uniroyal rainsport 3's and found them to be good in wet conditions but terrible in the dry.  These have not lasted long at all.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

these rated  top in an evo test with a golf in 2017

basically the same running gear as us so should be a good test.

here is the test article with comparisions it may help you decide.

i just had them fitted on my vrs yesterday and they work great so far.  not had time to  test them to the limit yet but they worked well in the wet today. :)

Rainsport 3 are well known for not lasting at all, despite being reasonably cheap to purchase. I'm still not convinced they represent good value though because of the wear. If there was an award for most overrated tyre on the internet, this would be one of the main nominees.

With those criteria, I have done a fair amount of research as I'm in a similar position. Goodyear F1 AS3 seems to be a decent trade off of performance, rolling resistance, noise and price - basically the all rounder and top of my shopping list. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is one of the more expensive options, but supposedly performs better and lasts longer. Slightly noisier too.

The other option would be the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance. Similar price to the F1 AS3 but more comfort based. Softer sidewalls may be an issue if you like to drive enthusiastically.

Not had them but from reading up my next tyres will be F1 AS3 for the reasons you state.

Got all 4 changed recently to Goodyear F1s AS3 and they are great. Highly recommended

just ordered Goodyear eagle F1 AS3's on 19's so i'll report back after a few hundred miles. I've currently got kuhmo on 18s which were fitted by Skoda and they are terrible. Poor grip noisy and not that cheap.

+1 Goodyear F1 AS3, though I had some hankook some time ago and they seemed to last forever

I put Goodyear F1 AS3's on the front of my mk2 about a month before I got my mk3 and thought they were fantastic. Like JohnnyType2 I have kuhmo on the mk3 as fitted by Skoda and don't think they are anywhere near as good as the AS3's
