Brake Disc Issue

Featured Replies

Morning all

On my 2016 VRS diesel I have recently noticed that only the centre part of my rear brake discs appears to be making contact with the pads based on the wear pattern. There is a rather thick rusty edge appearing around the outer edge (about 2cm) and the same on the inner edge (about 1cm). No matter how many miles I drive with varying pressures applied to the brakes it's only the centre part, about 50% of the disc that seems to clean off.

Has anyone else had a similar issue or might know what the problem is?

Many thanks

The octy I have recently bought has a similar wear pattern to the rear discs I thought it must have just been mine sitting around sometime before I started owning it. The rac inspection commented on it before I bought it. I have new disks on order as I wasn't happy about it.

Luckily new discs are not expensive these days. Unless you are a pretentious **** like me and want grooved and drilled. And so therefore have to change the fronts as well to match at the same time. Lol. So that then brings the bill up to £200.

depending on the width tolerances for the pads & if they are made slightly smaller this will happen...

Over the past 23yrs I have tried most grooved, dimpled etc brake discs, most cause problems of some type & some of what were the best, now have poor manufacturing...

On the front I currently run ATE "infinite loop" discs....best I have ever had...a groove for stone clearing & pad de-glazing...best manufacturing & tightest tolerances, infact they should be "high end race" based on this according to other brand specs...but they are just "road" according to ATE...just they have high standards..

I run these with their standard pads as the ceramic low dust ones squeeel & only work with the plain ATE discs.....& thats bookmarked for the rears...

Thats me :D  I'm going to be ordering drilled front and rears for mine shortly from MTEC.  I had them on my previous Scout and A4 previous to that and was very impressed with the quality
