Squeaky Creakey plastic

Featured Replies

Just upgraded from 2012 1.2 se to 2017 1.2 se, disappointed to say the least that the plastic housing around the the spedo etc are constantly creaking with any slight bump or uneven road surface, my 2012 Yeti would occasionally create a creak but a well aimed prod would stop it , the newer model has a different design and no amount of tapping and fiddling stops the creaks!!

its driving me mad, any one else suffering this and any solutions please?

Very common problem. I have used a dry lube spray such as Tableau Dry Lube to spray around the top of the dials. Mop up any overspray with some kitchen towel. I have had to spray twice on the latest Yeti to eliminate all the squeaks. Was very annoying.

Well, my 2017 1.2 se Drive doesn't creak. It isn't totally silent at all times, but not a squeaky creaky car. Quite good really.

I had this problem too. Dealer when through the expence of the replacing the dials to the cost of almost £1000. Two weeks later started creaking again. Now dont know what to. Does anyone know how to remove the dials as i could try put anti rattle tape that they use on the jaguar dashboards where i work

I cured it on mine.  I used some black felt pads and folded them over to make 4 pads of 1cm x 1cm x 3mm.  Using a slim screwdriver, I pushed them between the round dials and dashboard. You just need to make the pads thick enough to fit really snug and jam them in. Being black and recessed you don’t notice them once jammed in.  It drove me mad before also.

I tried rubber pads on mine at first and it did help but didn't eliminate the rattles totally. Dry Lube has cured it permanently on both my Yeti's now! :-)

What dry ube did you use and where did you get it?

Have the same problem on ours may give the dry lube a try

I'm surprised Auric hasn't commented on this thread.

hes proberly out trying to get hold of some dry lube

just chipping in .... my 2016 1.2 TSi has just developed this rattle after 17000m, pleased to hear it's not just me

I find these "rattles" seem to be temperature related.
Mine was doing it the other morning, but disappeared once the car had warmed up.

Agreed, my wife's Yaris does exactly that.  1st thing driving away in cold weather there is often a squeak or rattle fron the dash area.  As soon as the car warms up they disappear.  In the warm weather they are non-existent.

Tableau Dry Lube

Robert Dyas normally sell it and I got mine in our local shop, but online it seems out of stock currently.  Amazon have it here https://www.amazon.co.uk/200ml-Tableau-Lube-Silicone-Lubricant/dp/B007LA3CPM

Isn't Tableau a silicone lubricant spray, is that what you mean by dry lube? - or is it better to go with one of the PTFE dry lube sprays that are actually "dry" .

Its what I have successfully used on two Yeti's. Not sure about the technicalities of 'dry lube' but bought it on recommendation from another Briskodian who posted on this problem about 4 years ago if I remember correctly.

I've decided to use the WD40 PTFE dry spray, sprayed it once yesterday and took it for a run and there was a vast improvement, may spray some more and even wedge some felt in there to make sure !!      ongoing task, will report back.

My first Yeti was creak free from day 1, but my 2016 L&K was infuriatingly loud, at all temperatures.

After trying to wedge various items into the gap, I eventually bought some very cheap silicone spray-lube from the local poundshop, and used it vary sparingly, taking care not to let it overspray onto the face of the dial surround. It helped, but still some creaks, so I then followed instructions on a previous thread to undo the instrument panel and tilt it forwards to enable me to smear some plumbers silicone grease onto the mounting brackets too and a little more around the top edge of the panel. Screwed it all back together.... perfect! That was 6 months ago and not a squeek since, whatever the ambient temperature.

I'll see if I can find the previous thread.

EDIT See how to remove instrument cluster here: http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/yeti/vehicle_electrics/electrical_system/instruments_gci/dash_panel_insert/removing_and_installing_the_dash_panel_insert/

There's no need to remove the cluster entirely, just release it as described in the link & pull it forwards. I seem to recall that it helped to drop the steering wheel as low as it would go, and fully towards you, though this may not be necessary.
