OBD

Featured Replies

As a new Skoda owner I’m interested in finding out as much as I can regarding the car.

whilst trolling this forum I’ve seen a lot of reference to OBD Bluetooth scanners.

is it worth having one to mess around with (responsibly), and if so what units are recommended?

thanks.

If you just want to look then a simple elm327 Bluetooth and an android phone is all you need for engine ecu fault codes. If you want more the obdeleven is far more powerful and a cheaper alternative to the vcds cable that needs a laptop to work which is considered the top option.

If you don't have an android then you need a wifi based elm327 to connect to an iphone.

a basic Bluetooth OBD scanner will give you access to fault codes & apps like Torque or the VAG DPF info.

Similar functionality to the Skoda official app you have with the newer model years.

You can have some nice info screens from your phone/tablet like driving profile, boost levels, températures etc

Here you are only reading info so cant really cause any problems.

If you want to change something, add some new features which were paid options from the factory then you can go a step further with OBD11 or VCDS.

There is a thread pinned at the top of the forum which détails what you can enable with these methods.

Here you can cause problems with your car or configuration so need to remember to make a backup before changing anything.
