Ordering tomorrow - last minute switch to sportline?

Featured Replies

Hi All- I hope someone can give me some advice.  I KNOW it's my decision  - and I need to decide - just some useful assistance opinion would be good though please -

Planning to order a new TDI DSG Edition 7 Seater TOMORROW...   Went in the the dealer to have a last minute look at the colours to make a choice.  We were looking at:

Petrol Blue

Quartz Grey
Cappucino Beige
Brilliant Silver
After much deliberation we have chosen the Quartz Grey (with Petrol Blue our other real option - but think I'm settled )

Anyway - We saw a  Sportline (red) in the showroom.  Absolutely loved it. Seats much nice than the leather in the edition.

Am seriously considering making a change to our plans, but am worried about losing the kit in the edition -

Pro's -
Sportline look and seats which I love.

Cons
Only available in 4x4. (was planning on a 2wd)
Additional fuel cost (about 17,000 miles covered a year)
No Lane Assist/Blind spot detection  (not sure I am that fussed though)
Possibly higher vehicle tax?

The Sportline will likely cost another £1500.

Anyone think I should swap ?  and why please?

Thanks -

It all depends on your priorities - sporty looks on an SUV with nothing to back it up (it's not going to go any faster), or a classy looking SUV with plenty of toys, and for less money.

I really don't get this obsession with sporty SUVs, they are not at all sporty by their very nature. At the extreme end, the new Bentley and Lambo ones are just plain stupid, but it does seem to be the fashion accessory of choice at the moment.

If you want alcantara seats instead of leather and you're not sure about wanting/needing the toys, how about an SEL for even less money?

Its all about aesthetics.

You are trading spec for cosmetic add-on's.

If it were a straight swap (Edition > Sportline) for the same money then the decision would be pretty simple. But another £1,500 means you have to really care about looks.

Everyone knows the car isn't sporty, despite the name, but it is the best looking Kodiaq. The question is what value do you place on what your car looks like?

The S, SE L and Edition look too plain for me, I'll either go for an SE L and have the bumpers colour coded or stump up the extra for a Scout. But that's what makes the world go around, if we all fancied the same women...

I wouldn't pay the extra dosh. If I want the looks, I want the engine to back it up!

If you really want it then I don't really see a problem if you're willing to put up with the extra upfront and running costs.

Thank you all for talking some sense into me.  I know it wont go faster - I just love the alcantara sports seats and general look I think.
I prefer the leather to the standard alcantara, and would have chosen metallic paint in any case - so happy with the Edition over the SE L .

I'm hoping I get to choose between the Tryglav and Sirrius wheels - Much prefer the Sirrius  - Will see what the dealer says tomorrow - Looking forward to getting the order in and then trying to forget about it for a while!

Soon to be the proud owner of a slip of paper that tells him he has to wait 12 weeks for a car

You should definitely get the choice on wheels, just be sure to remember to mention it when ordering.

The Edition will get the Triglav as standard unless you ask for the Sirius.

Edition toys are just that - toys. Not essential.

You either like leather or you don’t.

SEL plus one or two extras is your friend. But I’m biased :)

On Edition you can swap between either I think

The sportline looks great. The colour coded bumpers for me alone makes it a much better looking car.

Most of what is in every car these days could be classified as toys. We're long past the stage of only having the essentials in our favoured mode of transport.

Agree but he thinks, once you have had the "toys" they then become/morph to the essential section. Heated front windscreen and door mirrors (cold foggy can't see out of after a few minutes) to me being one of the few that is a must, heated seats is a convenient addition only with leather. There are others but that list will become BIGGER.

Oh and my TV!:D

Thanks all for the advice - I managed to hold it together and stay as per plan - steering clear of the voluptuous Sportline.

TDI DSG Edition 7 seat in Quartz Grey ordered -

Feels great to have it sorted - now just have to wait..!

Saw that one as well, it rather overshadowed everything else in the showroom -  visions of fire engines came to mind but a very subtle metallic... you would definitely be seen!!

Definitely kept going back to it as those seats were something else...

Now....  if they did those seats in an SEL with some nice little alloys that can survive the pot hole ridden roads that are Hertfordshire...

Stay calm Agent X20 - Do the sensible thing - Stay with SE L or Edition.. Do not be swayed by the short skirt.

I hope you're not having a pop at our fabulous Highways Agency.   I gave up reporting pot holes, no one ever came out!!!

Go for it it’s gorgeous. Colour coded bumpers. Great seats

They're only responsible for motorways and trunk routes. Most roads are repaired by the local council - but they have no money for anything these days, and what little money they do have has to go on higher priority budget items.

Think I am fairly safe as everytime i go down there to buy,  they all ignore me... I really don’t know why they bothered with that VIP event..

Two Superbs later that have both suffered from wear and tear to the alloys, I couldn’t live with those 20inchers.... yeti was good fun so hoping the kodiaq would combine the smoothness and roominess of the superb with the ability to survive the odd pothole...

Is this an after-sale process, to get the bumpers colour coded? What might it cost?

It is something I've considered too.

It won't be something a Skoda dealer will offer, however it will be a relatively easy job for a well respected local body shop.

I'm guessing the black plastic elements of the bumper will be textured which might adversely affect the painted finish but I'm sure it is something easily resolved.

Costs of course will vary but I'd imagine £500 would cover the removal, priming, painting and refitting of the front and rear bumpers, that's assuming they can't be painted in situ i.e. whilst still fitted to the car?

It might be possible to wrap the lower front bumper, or sand it smooth then wrap.
