Upgrading Sound Amplifier in Octavia 2 Pre FL

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have Octavia 2 Pre FL MY 2007 L&K with stock amplifier 1Z0 035 456.

I have replaced my stock radio to Chinese Android Radio and there is no sound from speakers now. To tackle this issue I have connected my stock radio in parallel with new radio which gives signal to amplifier to switch ON and now I have sound from speakers.

I am guessing that the signal (DDP/BAP) provided by new radio is not understood by amplifier and hence it doesn't switch ON.

I am planning to upgrade my amplifier (I know I will have to replace connector(mine is 2 sockets and newer have 1 socket) which connects to the amplifier.)

Will replacing amplifier with newer amplifier (5K0035456E or 3T0035456 or 5C6035456 or 8T0035223AH) solve this issue?

Does this new amplifier have component protection?

Request help and suggestion from experts.

Thanks.

It's more likely the Chinese headunit doesn't send CAN messages to turn the amp on/off rather than it being a DDP/BAP issue. With that in mind, I wouldn't expect any OEM amp to work with it...

I'd contact the headunit manufacturer to see if they are aware of any OEM amps it supports or use an aftermarket amp if there is a remote wire.

Think an aftermarket amp is the easiest way.

On another topic the user just 'abused' its old head unit to fit in a box beneath the drivers seat, so it still would switch on the amplifier.

Although this works, I don't think this is a very nice approach

You als might try to re-engineer the required canbus signals to switch on the amplifier, and use an EPROM, Arduino or similar to reproduce them, but that would involve good electronics knowledge (And access to the required equipment)

I also see this is commercially available, but quite expensive

(This is for a VW Touareg, but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar exists for the O2)

Jokes apart, do amplifier have component protection?

If they are from a MK2 Octavia or other PQ35 based car, I wouldn't have thought so.

If it's from a MQB or Audi it probably will.
