Spare Wheel Removal. What Fun!

Featured Replies

It certainly doesn't pop out in a hurry.

For those of you with a spare, how often do you check it?  Air pressure that is.

I decided today was another lucky day so dragged it out of it's hiding place.

Weather was fine. No rain. No rush :)

I wouldn't like to be doing it on a dark, wet night with a boot full of luggage and/or a full load of passengers.

I had the row 2 + 3 seats already flat for another reason, so sliding the full size boot liner forward was easy peasy.

Then haul out the hard lid and toss it forward.

Then wrench the soft cover off the plastic studs.

Then remember how to pop up the row 3 seats on their little gas struts.

Then fiddle lout the 2 unused hinged Velcro boot dividers which are surplus when you have a plastic boot liner.

Then unbuckle the big polystyrene bucket holding the jack, etc.

Then unscrew the big plastic butterfly nut - AFTER noticing the secret locking clip on the top of it that has to be yanked off.

Then wrestle the (clean) upside down space saver out and lug it into the garage where I could give it 10 PSI to bring it up to the recommended pressure of 60 PSIG.

Along the way I noticed that yet again Skoda have supplied a "Bent Nail" wheel bolt cap removal tool instead of the Tweezer tool, so I ordered a very cheap one online this evening.

Having replaced everything I'm good to go for a few more weeks. But the locking wheel bolt key now lives inside the cabin in a wee plastic tub (old 35mm film canister) with the cap remover taped to it.

You should have both the alloy wheel centre cap removal tool and the plastic tweezers. I'd be back onto the dealer if either were missing, although I guess they're both only a few quid online.

Be aware though that the alloy wheel centre cap tool on the Kodiaq serves a dual purpose, whilst the days of large alloy centre caps on Skoda alloys are long gone the tool is still supplied as it is needed to remove the access panel in the front wheel arch liner to when gaining access to the front foglight bulbs.
