Problem with a gearbox

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I was looking for some advice regarding my vehicle and was hoping that you may be able to help me.

I have a Skoda Octavia 7 Speed DSG automatic car, owned from new in 2013; I have only completed 38,000 miles so far.
I had an issue the other day where I was pulling out from a junction when the car seemed to be unresponsive; it appeared to have a lag time before it kicked into gear. This lag could have caused an accident, and I’m concerned it may be an ongoing problem.

I’ve not noticed this sluggishness before but really worried that it may be a problem and could cause an accident.
I got enough So i took the car to my local garage. Just after 5 minutes to the diagnostics. We have noticed oil leak from under black coven on the gearbox.
Also there was fault found on the gearbox with insufficient pressure build in and play protection or something.
Unfortunately local garage will not take this job as they are not a gearbox specialists
Has anyone experienced this issue before?

Kind regards,
Edgar

There is a Service Campaign for some DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG built from 2013-2015 with Factory Filled Mineral oil.

'34 H5'  a Software Update.

Check with Skoda UK CS or a Main Dealer if yours needs this.

http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

If a new Mechatronic Unit is required this is for Skoda to pay for even with a car out of the Manufacturers Warranty.

There is a Fundamental Design, Manufacturing, Material / Component / Fluid or Software fault on some Units.

Skoda know, VW know, Dealership staff should know, that is why there was a Service Campaign started November 2016.

This VIN checker does not show if '34H5' is outstanding just '34F7' for cars / DQ200 2009-2013

This is great, you've put a time to help me - Thank you!

I'll get to it right now.

Hi Edgar, Had same issue ! And you will need new mechatronic unit to be fitted.
I was lucky because my car was on warranty so Skoda changed for free.
Regards Jonathan

Perhaps is just a seal under the cover ? If low oil mechatronic will not be working properly as well. Change seal top up with oil, delete faults. And hope for the best.

Jonathann is correct, you will need to replace the mechatronic unit.

Actually if the issue is the one that required Skoda / VW to start service campaign '34H5' then Skoda will have to replace the MCU, regardless of the Manufacturers Warranty.

Thanks for this Ziho! It's another option. So busy lately I didn't have time to take care of this, but could you let me know where did you get that done if you can recommend that garage?

If I can't get that sorted by Skoda, I need to find someone trustworthy to get that fixed.

Any suggestions guys?

You want Skoda to fix it. @ their expense.

I will post a friends thread that has not had Skoda UK's assistance with the known faults they know of, damn expensive as he has a main dealer doing the work.

There is a pinned thread in the Fabia Mk2 Section on the First Service Campaign.

Ones in the General Maintenance and in other sections on the 2013-2015 Service Campaign '34H5'.

Stuff on Facebook and all over the place.

@AwaoffSki I have to say - you are awesome. This forum is lucky to have you here. Useful link - many thanks.

I'll keep you posted here on the progress of my issues. Have a good weekend.

From what you have written I would say that the mechatronic unit needs to be replaced.
Fault regarding play protection will occur when the Valve Body is cracked. The mechatronic unit will then lose pressure and will be not able to work properly, therefore, the gearbox will not work properly.
It is a very common fault with 7 Speed DSG 0AM Gearboxes.
As people stated Skoda should change unit for you regardless of the warranty.
Good Luck

It is still happening in 2018 with DQ200 DSG built after 2014.

Owners going to Gearbox Engineers to get Software Updates and resolve issues while others are left trying to get Skoda / VW to accept there are issues.

Some in Warranty getting new Clutch Packs or MCU's.

Ones out of warranty told to GTF.

It might only be dozens or a few hundred, but it is the VW Group lack of giving a monkeys that is concerning,.

Hi guys,
so it ridiculous - Skoda is playing on time. I'm not getting any genuine support. I've started my research and get some quotes, but a lot of garages charge a just little bit less than the main dealer... anyone out there who can recommend a genuine gearbox specialist?
Please help.
