Exhaust Options?

Recommended Posts

Hey!

Picked up a new VRS245 DSG a couple of weeks ago and looking to get peoples opinions on the best value exhaust mods?

I want slightly louder without being antisocial but good at full chat, thinking a Y pipe or similar?

Some people say remove the mid resonator. Don’t know if this is a good idea or not....

I’d love something more vocal on my 220 VRS but don’t know what route to go down if any.

Whatever you do, keep the mid resonator. Essential for keeping drone (high pitch pipe rattle, not the bassy one) out of the car. Especially important in our sound deadening anemic car.

I replaced the stock resonator with a smaller straight through resonator (stock one is baffled), love it and 99% drone free.

Doesn't the 245 has a livelier exhaust compare to the standard 220? or was it the 230 that has smaller mid resonator?

My advice is either leave it alone and live with the minimalist soundtrack, or spend the £ on a decent cat-back system.

Exhausts are designed in such a way to control air flow as best as possible away from the engine, and simply sawing bits out of it will most likely end up harming your performance.

+1 on @GoneToBeemer - as I've said in a few previous posts, the VAG specialists that did my exhaust said that the stock system is not optimised for 'chopping and changing'.

Increasing size of downpipe or getting a decent cat-back works; likely you'll be looking at custom work to improve the noise.

If you want +performance, I'd recommend saving up and spending it on a full system.

Hi guys thanks for the replies, wanna just say when I say 'value' I don't mean cheapest I'm happy to spend money on the right kit but just wanted to get some opinions on what's best to go for.

Ive had high performance bikes for years so well versed on exhaust however the car world seems very different.

I think from what ive looked at so far a basic ish cat back system will be good enough, I'm not looking to chase dyno numbers just open up its breathing with this and a filter of some description.

Amd Essex do Milltek back box for just under a grand plus you can get re-map half price for £250 if fitted same time as exhaust which should give between 300-320bhp and 430-450nm torque according to Ben at the above. Have used them at least five times in the last 20years so know how good they are. Also interest free credit available over 12 months with just 10% deposit. So re-map is £50 down on its own then 12 payments of roughly £37 per month, very affordable. Hope this helps.

Yes the 245 has a 'sport' exhaust. If you turn the sound actuator off you can hear it from inside. Sounds like my old Astra VXR, but a lot quieter.

The only way to completely remove the actuator sounds is to either disable with VCDS or unplug the cable from it.

Even in the off mode from the car menu it produces sound, heck even in "Eco" it produces some sounds.

Ont:

I have a Milltek cat-back system on my -17 vRS non resonated and i love it. Sure there is some drone at 2500-3000 rpm but nothing that i personally dislike.

hey I am in the same boat as @ElliottLW I want to get more sound and volume but don't want  to break the bank and don't want crazy drone.

I have gone to my local exhaust shop and they are looking at doing a muffler delete or replace them with performance mufflers (hotdog mufflers).

What do u guys thing?
