EPC light on

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’m looking for advise please. I had EPC light on and after scanning I found out that this is related to brake light switch (under master cylinder) i was shocked as I have replaced my switch about year ago (this is pretty easy but there is no room for hands). Anyway I have decided to give it a go as they are not very expensive unfortunately this has not solved the problem.

new switch in place but EPC still on when scanning it is still telling me this is the switch.

can you help and tell me what to check/ replace now?

cheers

What are you using to scan for error codes?

Have you cleared the error code after replacing the switch?

Do the brake lights work?

Have you checked the wiring to the brake light switch?

No idea if a faulty brake light switch can damage anything but I can understand it stopping cruise control working. VCDS might have some measuring blocks to get it's status?

Hi and thank you for coming back to me. I have scanned on 3 different devices :

- VCDS

- Sanp On scanner ( local garage)

- Carista OBD- iPhone scanner

all showing same code which I cleared out however EPC still coming back ( not straight away after few junctions)

i have never had problem with brake lights even on the very first occasion when new switch cleared EPC out about uear ago.

i have not checked the wiring as the location is really terrible (under master cylinder) there is no room to play at all.

I’m thinking of booking my car in with the dealer as I’m using this daily and don’t really want to damage something else.

I have just checked plug, all fuses and wires as far as I could without removing engine  all seems to be good. After unplugging this switch all lights gone on constantly, EPC light gone off and CC started to work.

i took it for a little drive around and after 5 mins all came back : EPC on, no CC and rear lights working fine as always. Very strange to me.

any ideas please?
