Interior lights when engine/ignition is off

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have had my superb sportline for a few months and am loving it, best car I ever had!

I will start looking at the VCDS mods soon, I like the look of enabling the auto headlights!

Anyway I would like the interior lights to come on when I stop the engine/ignition (Start/Stop button) rather than when I open the door.

I need the light so I can collect my things together before I leave the car!

Am I missing an option buried in the menus or would this be another VCDS mod?

Thanks and I hope to start contributing when I learn more about my car as I go on.

Alan

In my Octavia III, the interior lights come on when i remove the key from the ignition after stopping, without opening the doors. Don’t know if its something thats set up in the settings? Not sure if a superb is the same but i’ll get chance to find out as i’ve ordered a new superb to replace my octavia, can’t wait!

Thanks for the reply Rowls, I think I will trawl through the menus (of which there are many!) looking for a related option.

Hi Alan and welcome. There is an auto setting for the interior lights, shown in the manual as below. That may be what you need.

I have Kessy and from memory it puts the interior lights on when I press the Stop button and turns them off when the door is opened. Will confirm tomorrow if no-one else comes in before then. I can't tell you how to achieve this as mine has done it from day 1 with no input from me. BTW mine is L&K so hopefully a Sportline owner will be along before too long with model-specific info.

BriskodaJeff,

That might be it, i'll try the A button shown in the manual and report back later.

Thanks

So I tried last night and with the A button pressed in the out position the interior light don't work at all.

I have copied this out of the manual and found with the button pressed in:-

Automatic operation of the lamp - switch
The system is turned on when any of the following is present.
› The vehicle is unlocked. - yes it does turn on the interior lights when I unlock the car.
› One of the doors is opened. - yes it does turn on the interior lights when I open the door before and after journeys.
› The ignition key is removed. - Now technically I don't have a key but when I turn off the ignition with the stop button (Which I would assume is the equivalent of removing the key) the interior lights do not come on. This is the part I have an issue with, when I stop the car and before I want to leave, the lights should come on to allow more to collect my things before opening the door.

Thanks guys, can anyone confirm this is how their superb behaves?

Same as I mine.  I assumed it was a bug with KESSY implementation.  Previous VAG (keyed) cars have always lit up when the engine is switched off and the key is removed from the barrel.

It seems my memory isn't as good as it used to be:sadsmile:. Checked tonight and it is exactly as Penguin says. I have only had my new car 6 weeks - the previous SII (with key start) put the interior lights on when the key was pulled, as you say.

So it seems with kessy it’s by design?

Allbeit it with no option in the menus to change it.

now could this be changed with a bit of VCDS coding?

Like Penguin, I think it's a bug, as it makes the car less convenient to exit in the dark than the older one it replaced. And sadly I suspect the lack of replies to your last question is an answer of sorts.

If you do manage to get it sorted, could you please post an update on here? There are a few of us with Kessy who miss the feature we had with previous key-start cars.

A quick google reveals there's other VAG car owners have noticed this behaviour:

According to the manual there are 3 triggers for interior lighting:

1. Unlocking the car

2. Opening a door or the boot

3. Removing the key from the ignition

It would seem that only 1 and 2 are applicable with KESSY, with no substitute for 3.

Thanks for the replies, I have sent an email off to Skoda to see if anything can be done.

Wait and see.

Thanks again for the help.

@Gizmo can you please offer any insight here.  Is this something you've looked at with VCDS?

I haven’t looked specifically for this but I do know there are a couple of hundred of adaptations just for the interior lights... and they are all in German.

With all this bad weather you surely have some spare time on your hands?!

Thanks

I wish, it seems like I am one of the very few who are single handedly keeping the country running :D

Hi Gizmo,

Thanks for looking, I have emailed Skoda, I don’t know how helpful they will be but we’ll see.

In my mind to solve this issue is a spot of coding and adding it as an option in the lighting menu.

God know why it wasn’t done considering how advanced and well thought out this car is.

On another note could I ask how I’d go about seeing if my car is capable of enabling auto main beam, lane assist and sign recognition.

Thanks so much everyone

If you do not have the camera in the windscreen (triangle behind the mirror) then it is not possible
