German Plates

Featured Replies

I have got to admit, I really want some German plates... Think they look so great, and being a Skoda, and owned by VW, a German company, I think i could get away with it. My only worry is they are illegal... :( I suppose I could only use them every so often for the kicks, instead of all the time, just seems like a waste though!

Basically, I wanted to know if anyone has them or has had them, and ever been stopped by the police because of them. And if yes, were you fined the

Watch out, you might get a warning letter from your local Constabulary come through the post. Like someone else on here..... :( That person is now in a dilemma whether to put legal ones on again for a bit. :( ;)

I ran both my mk3 vr6 and mk2 gti on german plates (with white rear plates) with no problems but rather illegal.

As long as they are spaced correctly and use a yellow rear plate most police will not bother. Brothers G60 corrado passed it's mot with german plates on (yellow rear plate).

They do look good though. running tinted plates on the fabia at the moment though.

I have german plates on in NZ from http://www.germanplates.com

The quality is excellent, proper stamped metal and the service was great too - within a few hours of submitting the order I had a photo of the plates in my inbox - already made and posted!

But NZ plates are all white anyway...

Check out a post I put up earlier regarding fines and possible plate retraction!!! German style plates don't get recognised by the ANPR Cameras used by Plod!!

OK, so searching the forum for answers, yet none of the threads seem to have conclusions on the whole Czech plates thing, any find out how to get them? and i mean the yellow rear ones too!

I have German plates on my new car. Asked a friend who is a PC and he said 99.99 % of the time you'd get a warning first, although some UK forces take a far different view.

Have a look on www.germanplates.com - they do the yellow rear plates as well as genuine German ones - this is from their website:

I have an Austrian front plate, which was a souveneer that I brought back from Worthersee last year.

Try Dubmiester! Got mine from inters last year! Also think they may sell the Proper German surrounds like My wolsfburg one :)

I Looked into this a while back.

1. Czech plates cannot be made in Yellow - They have white front & Back

2. Look HERE for Pressed Metal Czech Plates.

3. To get them made & Shipped it worked out about

Mine cost NZ$115 or about 45GBP for a pair with mounting frames and postage to NZ - but official government issue plates here cost $300 for an equivalent "Euro style" replacement set.

Technically the only plates you're allowed to have are the government ones

I got some this week - fitted them today. Well chuffed with them :) (pictures attached), didn't bother with the "D" band or sticker things. Think they look very Czech, but standard enough. Stuck them on with Velcro so I can quickly swap them with the original plates if need be. Got them from Dubmeister, arrived within 24 hours, very impressive service - Vinyl Store Take Note !!!!
