Rear wiper leaking into tailgate when in use.

Featured Replies

So after reading a few other threads and seeing issues with the current cold weather and windscreen wash being frozen I have a question.

Firstly is the Octavia MK2 VRS FL fitted with the fan type nozzle spray? Secondly if so what is the best screenwash for this? The reason I ask is because my rear wiper leaks into the tailgate when I use the screenwash, it seems to lose a fair bit of water. It operates and cleans the rear window but also leaks and there are no loose pipes or anything as I took the trim off and had a look.  Now is this due to the cheap screenwash being too thick etc to get through the fan spray type nozzle?

I see people are saying the VAG stuff is excellent but it is 2-3 times the price, also where is it bought from? Dealers only? Also I see the quantum brand is comparable to the VAG stuff and is quite a bit cheaper...

For the rear leak, remove passenger side boot lining, 95%that the hose has come disconnected from the Union. It’s a common fault on the mk2

The water is coming in from exactly where the motor is just below the rear windscreen, the boot locking mechanism then has water dripping down it too.

If there was a leak on the passenger side how would the water travel all the way to the point of just before it is sprayed on the rear wiper and then leak down that portion? It's a minor leak, I certainly don't have the boot spare wheel area filling with water. The water is purely leaking from the rear wiper casing/motor.

Excuse me if I am reading your advice wrong :)

There was a common fault with the fabia rear wiper motor/washer as the fluid went up through the spindle for the wiper and it corroded the tube and let fluid into the motor which then leaked through the motor casing into the boot.

Maybe something like that in your motor.?

I have cleaned the nozzle out and that has no blockage at all. It isn't related to the nozzle. I am not convinced it is screenwash either as fronts appear to be fine.

The rear water expulsion does seem weaker, probably due to a good portion of the water not making it to the nozzle, it seems to be leaking behind the trim where the piping connects to the wiper motor somewhere but I cannot figure it out.

I have a service due at the end of May, I'll probably leave it till then and let my trusted independant garage look at it at the same time!
