Windscreen wipers stopped working!

Featured Replies

Windscreen wipers stopped working! Could this be a fuse or a burnt out motor? They worked fine then just stopped! Ive left the handbook at home - any one know what number the windscreen wiper fuse is? If it's the motor - is it easy to replace, ie diy job?

Check fuse(s) first as it's quite common. I've not got the fuse layout handy but check out http://www.fabia-vrs.com/fusepanel.htm as that seems to do the job :)

Also check to see if you bonnet is fully closed :D

Check fuses and if bonnet was propperly closed - all fine!

I did notice that when i tested it and pulled the leaver towards me (like you would for the wash/wipe) the rear wiper came on

Any ideas?

Check the fuses again. IIRC, the rear wiper thing is due to the CANBUS system getting 'confused' by the blown fuse, and thinking you're trying to use the rear wiper (it was discussed on here a couple of days ago, so have a bit of a search, and you should find it!)

Once you find the faulty fuse, you might want to consider replacing it with one of these. :D

(Yes, I know it's a repost, and no, I don't really recommend trying it!)

Sounds like fuse still in that case

Found it! number 21 blown - looks like its a trip to halfords for a pack of assorted fuse this lunch time.

Many thank for the help guys - should this CANBUS reset it's self once i replace the fuse, or is there something i should do?

after reading all these posts yesterday i went out and promptly turned the wipers on (doh) amazing even though the wipers were stuck the fuse didn't blow , i jumped out to free the blades but before i got there they had freed themselves , must be one hell of a fuse , someones probably rapped silver foil round it , my mate used to do that on his mark2 escort with those porcelin fuses.

Hmm I'd never bother silverfoiling it, fuses are dirt cheap, unlike the motors/grief of changing wiring looms etc.

IIRC it was a few quid from my local petrol station, just chucked one in the spare wheel box with a bit of foam to stop it flying around, won't weigh the car down a lot :D

Had the same problem last night, it made the 60mile journey home quite interesting. I shall have a butchers at the fuses this morning when I can be bothered to wipe all the fresh snow off!

For info: the wipers weren't stuck to the screen when switched on, they just didn't work.

I'm sure I read on here that happens if the actual washer tank freezes - in which case, make sure you've got plenty of solution in there!

Fuse number 15 blown on mine, 10amp mini blade fuse. I guess it was the water bottle that did it, as the washer wasn't working when I pulled into work yesterday morning. Sorted now thanks to Briskoda members, the internet what a great resource!

Glad it's all fixed!
