Question....car discussion etiquette

Featured Replies

Bit surprised with a man on scoobynet. He posts up 'I get my new zafira vxr gsi cdti turbo on 1st March' He gets a couple of wise cracks and good and bad praise.

He responds by saying he didn't ask for it and is abusive to those who said derogatory things.Swearing abusive.:thumbdwn: Some agree with his view some don't

I have asked the question why post up about your car in the first place on a public site? Unless you title your thread 'This is my new car, only those people who love it or have one post here' or alternatively post it on a Vauxhall site?

What are the rules then? I thought you were fair game for everything:confused:

Vauxhall Zafira VXR GSI TDi Turbo - I hope the boot is wide wnough to carry all those badges ;)

Everyone defends their own choice of car, to a point, and it happens everywhere. Sadly ScoobyNet's users seem to be falling in age as quickly as their car's used prices ;) The Zafira is a family man's car and perhaps they just dont get it ;)

How many posts has this guy made? Surely he should get a good feel for the place after 100 or so ?!

People tend to forget that the anonymity of the Internet means that discussion forums allow complete strangers to make fun of you, be abusive or whatever, with reckless abandon.

It does sound like that chap took things a little too personally though, there's really no excuse for being "swearing abusive" in response to a few wisecracks. I agree, what did he expect ?

I personally wouldn't have expected Scooby owners to be impressed by a Vauxhall, even if it is a warm/hot model. Still, the world would be a better place if we were all polite and considerate to each other...

Are they any good? ;)

Chris

They share their engine with the Movaro van thing (and possibly the last part of that description ;) - hired one recently and it was the most thirsty deisel I've ever driven - wish I'd had a Sprinter.

Are they any good? ;)

The W.O. has got a new 1.8 mid spec Zafira as a loan bus whilst her Picasso is in hospital, and she thinks it drives like a bus and is slow, with rock hard seats and no personality whatsoever. Even though the picasso is basically sha**ed ,we both prefer it immensly (sp.?), both to drive and for comfort.

The Zafira (at least the "sporty" models) seem to be driven by men who have been compelled to move to it by a growing family and who, if they weren't driving a Zafira, would be driving some kind of ch*vmobile. They all seem to be out to prove what big men they are by showing off just how recklessly they can drive.

But are they any good?! ;)

In answer to the original question, yes, if you solicit opinions on a car forum, you have to take those opinions with good grace or fair discussion...

Rob.

So, you're not keen on them, Nick ? ;)

You obviously never have dealings with children ! They are wierd , period!

The first time, the children made me smile, slightly. Now they're just annoying. John McEnroe, OTOH ...

Blimey Nick, sounds like you have some experience of these new menaces to our roads in "hot" people movers?

Only from being tailgated and cut up by a few of them - I remember Mattijs posting a scary experience with one, a long time ago, too.
