New member, new Fabia vRS (well soon anyhow!)

Featured Replies

Well, I've just ordered a new Fabia vRS from my local dealer (Fish Brothers - Swindon). It's the first new car I've ever bought - who'd of thought that it would be a Skoda! Just goes to show how far they have come - even in the last 5 years.

I commute 120 miles to work and back each day - so wanted something economical - and with a bit of poke. My VW Mk3 GTi has done over 120k - and the bills have been horrific to keep it on the road (fuel & maintenance). :thumbdwn: I've looked at all the new and nearly new cars - and the Fabia seems the best value for money - and the rock solid residuals tempted me to buy new.

I've gone for black magic, with heated seats, airbag deactivation, and xenon. ESP seemed a bit pricey - and I must admit I prefer to take things a bit easier - and not rely on electric wizardy to help me out if I push the envelope too far. Time will tell - choosing options is tricky! I've seen some of the debates on here - and sympathise.

Fish Bros were excellent - I have to say - and I feel I got a good deal for the car.

I'll get the car in 6 - 8 weeks - which is a cruel wait indeed. :(

I'll be leaving it as standard - can't really justify tinkering - although the performance increases are impressive.

My impressions overall are that the Fabia vRS is a solid car (300kg more than my Golf!!!), well built, comfortable, economical, stylish, good value, and good performance.

I lookforward to getting the keys! :D

Cheers, Dave

ps: this forum is excellent - and there is lots of helpful shared knowledge on here!

here here! :)

If your 120 mile daily commute is mainly on motorways, then Cruise Control would be worth having. I find it also saves on fuel. If you look at the MPG readout whilst driving at 70mph, and then activate CC at 70mph, the MPG readout immediately increases! If you are really tight (and have plenty of time!), you set the CC to 55mph and just follow the trucks in the slow lane, then the mpg figure becomes a wallet pleasing, 70+mpg for the whole journey. Not so good for Gordon Brown.

Welcome to Briskoda.

There is a meet in your area soon at the Leathern Bottle if you are interested in coming. Have a look in the meets section or do a search if you fancy it. Looks like a few of us will be there and the food is nice.

Welcome to Briskoda Dave :wavey:

Why not pop along to our Weston Super Mare meet on the 25th March and put some faces to names??

You should be able to add CC to your order if you want to have it. When I bought mine, the dealer told me that I could make changes to the options right up to 1 week before build. So if you have 6 weeks to wait; two of those will be shipping, and another week prior to that for build, so theoretically you still have 2-3 weeks to modify your order if you so wish. Well worth having, see how many people on here have had it retro fitted.

Hello and welcome, my Furby VRs was my first new car too! And what a car it is!
