Help with song library on SD card - 2014 Bolero

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The only thing I'm not happy with in my 64 plate Octavia Vrs is the inability to connect my old iPod classic. I used this on my Fabia VRS swing radio for 5 years, and found it a good solution to having all my music in the car controlled by the head unit. Unfortunatly my Octavia doesn't have MDI/Mitsumi only USB and line-in.

I've read a lot of posts about this so have ordered a reasonably good 128gb sd card but am now a bit concerned aboutbthe best way to copy my ipod library across.

Does anyone have any advice or tips on the best way of prepping the music library for copying. I'm not overly fussed with album art but I do want everything correctly organised and searchable.

I suppose worst case scenario I could use the ipod with the line-in jack but that's a big step backwards. Has anyone found any other solutions to having a large music library on the Bolero?

AFAIK, your 64-plate 2014 model should have the MIB1 unit, the same as in my car.

If that's the case, then I believe that the only option for navigating and selecting media from the SD card is by the actual names of the directories/folders on the card.  The ID3 tags for artists/album/title etc. are used once the media is playing, but are not used to select the media.

What I do, therefore, is to organize all of my music on the SD Card into separate folders for each artist, then a separate folder for each album within the artist folder, e.g.

- Artist #1

---- Album #1

---- Album #2

- Artist #2

---- Album #1

---- Album #2

etc.

Note: I never use playlists - so if you make use of those there may be some tweaks / differences that others can advise on.

Thanks iriches - that's how I believe my itunes library is already organised luckily!

Normally you can just copy directly your iTunez folder to the SD-card.

I did this with a 2nd card on the Columbus so we could keep my wifes music separate from my good stuff.

It took me ages to write over the music in the same order as my iTunes library onto an SD card and add artwork but I did it in the end! It is just like having the iPod plugged in, but no wires :)

Why couldn't you just copy the iTunes folder Sasha?

The SD card wanted to list it in A-Z format for artist and I prefer A-Z albums. Also the album art doesn’t copy over, that’s what took the time. Happily the MIB2 system plays FLAC files (as does the MIB1 Columbus) so I can use all the music I have written in FLAC format instead, once the radio is back :D

i was able to export all my favourite playlists from iTunes to my Bolero MIB1. I have 15000 songs on a 200gb SD card , about 130GB of tunes, pretty much my whole iTunes library. and i was able to write all the album covers to it as well.

Spotify.

That is all.

I've just procrastinated over the same thing......

In the end I created a few different folders:

General Music

Russ' Music

Kids Stuff

Alex, Luther & Phil

And then just filled up each of those folders with album folders.

General music has Now Albums, individual artists etc

Russ' Stuff has Drum & Bass, House, Garage etc (stuff my wife hates and I'm apparently too old to be listening to :D)

Kids stuff has Disney albums, Moana & Frozen sound tracks

Alex, Luther & Phil...........  Vandross..... O'Neal...... Collins (say no more :) )

Music is organised as artist/album folders on the SD Card.

BUT these days I don't listen to music much in the car. Combination of VRS road noise and not-very-good sounds from the MIB1 Bolero. I normally listen to podcasts - which for me are nearly all talk - played from my phone through Bluetooth.

I'm lucky enough to have found a car with a Canton system which is pretty good, but yes it's not a really quiet car on the road!
