Whilst looking for damage to front spring I removed wheel arch. 

 

The bulb can be accessed from inside wheel arch. Just pulls out retainer to reveal bulb. Use torx to remove lots of screws to allow removal of wheel arch liner.

While I don't need to change my indicators as the bulbs are fine. I was wondering how it was done. I was buffing and waxing the paint work  a few weeks back and thought that there was no screw driver access point around the outer lens like you normally get. So thanks for the info and great pics.  

 

How'd ya get on with your investigations while you were there?

Looks like the top mount bearings, but not 100%. I'm getting some prices from dealer parts dept. on this and other suspension parts.

Got a pack right in front of me.... 

 

You can just pop the light out with a plastic trim tool and swap the bulb.
