Voice Control for Music (Amundsen)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone point in the right direction with this one. I recently took delivery of my Octavia SEL 2.0 DSG. I have the Amundsen system, and voice control works great for everything apart from music. If I try selecting tracks or artists, the system advises that the connected source is not supported. I have tried voice control for music via Apple Carplay, Bluetooth, and I have also disabled Apple CarPlay on my iPhone X and used the native media player over USB. All sources are giving me the unsupported source for voice control message.

The only source I haven't tried is SD. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks in advance

I get the same result with my phone connection, the only music I can control is the radio. I don’t have an sd card either.

I know the CarPlay on my car isn’t supported by the voice controls, as when I press the voice button I only get Nav, Radio and Phone functions so maybe that is all you get. I never use it, but if I remember later I’ll press voice when I’m on the SD card and see what’s what.

That's surprising, I would have expected regular Siri control, even the aftermarket non-car play pioneer in my old Astra does that if I hold the button down. I would expect play/pause/previous/next support on any music source coming via CarPlay, and "Play music from <artist>" type requests on Apple Music.

Does "Hey Siri" work to do the above? How about holding down the Home button on the CarPlay screen? (The latter not being particularly great while driving) This assumes Siri is switched on in your phone settings of course.

When I hired a Focus with CarPlay, the steering wheel voice button launched Siri. Does it change if you are viewing CarPlay at the time, versus viewing Nav etc?

Edit, just saw this comment on the Superb forum, "Bottom left of the screen is the CarPlay disconnect button. Touch and hold will switch the car's Voice Control to Siri.". I don't have an Octavia yet to check the setting myself but curious to know.

Thanks for the responses guys,

My mistake in the original post, it does support voice control using Siri if you say 'Hey Siri' in Apple Carplay.(which has nothing really to do with the in-built voice controls of the car). It however doesn't seem to support voice control In the native USB media screen however (which is much prettier, better, and also shows the track playing in the MaxiDot display. Here is an image of the iPhone playing through the native USB media player.

And here is an image of the voice control screen when you press the voice button.

As you can see in the bottom right hand corner, There is an example on using media. "Select Artist" is in fact a demonstrated example of how to use it. When I try to use this for selecting songs over USB, I get the 'unsupported source' message. I also get it when connected via Bluetooth, which can be expected. So my argument is; what source is actually supported to use the built in media voice controls? As I previously mentioned, I have not tried SD. (I don't normally use SD at all so ill be surprised If I have one.) The fact that the example on the screen is "Listen to SD 1", maybe this is a hint towards the fact that SD is the only supported source for media voice controls. I would be very surprised if that is the case.

Thanks again for your input, I would appreciate any further thoughts you might have.

Yes works on sd for me

Yes that’s how mine is, Siri on CarPlay is separate, but I don’t get USB or BT voice control so I guess it’s not something it can do.

Thanks guys; looks like I’ll be investing in an SD card :)

You know you can activeate Siri from the steering wheel button?!

Normal voice control one click, when you have Car play connected click and hold voice control button and it switch's to using Siri. Or it did this on my MK3 Fabia

Hi Daveface,

Yes I knew that. The issue was concerning the built in voice command utility and its supported sources for music. I think we have determined it is only supported with SD cards.

i know using Siri works but I much prefer the cleaner interface of the native media player shown in my image above. I can imagine a lot of people feel the same.

Although the Apple CarPlay interface is functional, I think it is just plain ugly, and  I like how the native media player shows your track information in the MaxiDot display, which CarPlay does not.

Trivial i know.

Thanks.
