Octavia 3 Mirror

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a couple of t10 led bulbs to fit in the number plate lights.  They were alleged to be error free.  So I thought I'd give them a try and if they did throw an error I'd just keep them and fit them in the puddle lights under the door mirrors.  Well, they did show an error.  After watching the Superskoda video on youtube on how to dismantle the mirror I was a bit wary to say the least.  The guy on there seems a bit brutal but got the job done.  I know that a lot of forum members have said that they've done this and didn't have a problem.  So I thought, it musn't be that difficult and had a go.  I've tried all ways to remove the glass and just can't get it to release.  I'm scared to pull too hard in case it breaks the glass but no matter what I try it just won't come off.  I've even tried heating the glass with a hair drier thinking it might make the plastic clips a bit more pliable but that didn't work either.  I've no doubt it might just be the fact that I'm not pulling hard enough on the glass but I'm just so scared of breaking it.  Also, with the car still under warranty I don't want to cause any other damage.  So I've just given up for the time being and might have another try at a later date.  My congratulations to anyone who has done this without problem.  You have my deepest admiration  :crying:

You might fair better with some pry tools but you really have to have faith in yourself when you think you're pulling too hard.

Yes, I've also tried using plastic pry tools but didn't have any better success with them either  :crying:

Due to the shape of the 'locking mechanism' you really think it'll break before it comes loose but just apply even pressure and it'll be fine.

Well, I've managed to remove each mirror glass and fit the led bulbs    After giving it another go using a pry tool and a bit of pushing and shoving it still wouldn't budge.  So, I had a windscreen suction mount lying around.  It's quite a big one with good suction so I sucked that onto the middle of the glass and used a pry tool at the same time and after a bit of jiggling it popped off.  I managed to fit the new led bulb without dismantling all the plastic.  I removed the three screws holding the glass actuator and once out I was able to get to the bulb holder.  It's a wee bit tight but managed ok using a screwdriver and point nosed pliers.  Then just reassembled everything.  When I came to do the driver's side mirror that wasn't so easy for some reason.  After pulling, shoving, twisting and swearing it just didn't want to release.  I was on the point of giving up and after one more try it came off ok.  Put the new led in that side and reassembled everything.  I'm quite pleased with the nice white light compared to the "yellow" standard bulb.  I hope this info might be of some help to anyone else daring to remove the mirror glass.
