Weak Windscreen? What a pain to replace these days!

Your experience sounds similar to mine. The quality of the Pilkinton screen on my car appears to be below that of the original screen.

I'll be insisting on a genuine screen this time.

Windscreen replacements are a nightmare.  I had my A pillars scratched on the previous Octavia, both sides!

Like you, my screen was also put in wonky so one side was sitting higher than the other!

I think it was laziness not removing all the old sealant before throwing in the new one.

Then the first windscreen had cracks, so that had to come out, then the second was also faulty.  I never managed to get the ticket click back in the exact same position to be able to hold tickets properly without a bit of bodging.

The first one was snapped by the screen fitter.

I think the tip for that clip is to remove it first from behind the A pillar trip and keep it safe. That way it cannot be damaged and when you go to put it back on again you should be able to position it correctly.

Sadly I think a windscreen is so integral to the car they will never go back as well as it was from the factory. Sounds even worse now with the amount of sensors that need to see through it!

Sounds like I had a better experience with the same location and insurance. I did insist on the genuine Skoda screen but I wouldn't expect an issue with Pilkington. Autoglass technician told me they fit genuine to under 3 years old but I guess its whatever they can get hold of. I had to wait 2 weeks until it came in.

I did feel the whole setup was a bit noddy, even our Twingo has lane assist...the calibration equipment really didn't look that complex!? I might be missing something but it has to be easier than this?

Its not even my car, it belongs to Skoda Finance as it's leased.

The thing is it goes back in a few months but I hate shoddy service and workmanship so I'll be sure its to a standard I'd want to receive it in.

The only glimmer of hope is that the lady I spoke to when I complained to Autoglass after I got home was very good. Lets see what happens next week.
