It also depends on how you are acquiring the car. I really wanted front sensors, traffic jam assist, a DSG box, heated leather etc. But I was buying used (ex-demo) so had to go with whatever the dealers had. The only logical choice was the L&K. While it has a number of options I don't need / want and wouldn't spec if I were buying new (there's a thread about it on here), it was by far the best combination for me as it was the only one that had everything I wanted as standard. If i were choosing a company car, for example, I probably wouldn't choose an L&K due to the tax implications.

Agreed Svend. And to me it's also very product-specific. Can't wait to see Penguin's meteor grey Sportline - it seems to be a brilliant colour for that model from the few photos I have seen - but I co

Can someone confirm if the TSI220 engine is discontinued now? I just arranged a test drive tomorrow and the dealer tells me that they don't have this engine available to test drive and that it has been discontinued besides, oh no!!! Is this true? Just as I sort of shortlisted..

I notice you have you own the spec with the engine I have also shortlisted...how do you find the performance of the TDI190?

I love it. But I'm coming from a 140PS TDI on the SII Superb. Someone coming from a more powerful car or a petrol engine might well disagree.

The throttle lag people talk about is real, IME, and I have purchased a tool to change the response (known as the Audi throttle mod - there is loads about it on here) but haven't got around to doing it yet. Others have added pedal boxes to further reduce or eliminate it.

Fuel economy is great which is crucial to me as I do ridiculous mileage. It has enough oomph to get me out of trouble (typically when mixing it with heavy motorway traffic and looking for a clear bit of road)  but I'm certainly not a Lewis Hamilton wannabe and I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times it has seen licence-threatening speed. Acceleration is more than quick enough for me, especially in the 30-70mph range which is where I need it most.

It behaves well around town, but economy suffers badly and like any diesel it's happiest munching miles on the motorway.

Overall I'm really happy with the 190. In truth I suspect I may have been almost as happy in a 150, but the extra power, while little-used, puts a big smile on my face.

I’m still in doubt regarding the colour, since my car is delayed. Cappucino Beige, BusinesS Grey or Emerald Green...

All the 2l petrol engines have been stopped due to the impending gpf. It is believed they will all be available to order soon once the GPF has been implemented. However, from some sources it appears there has been a bit on power output.

I just got back from Germany, VAG country. I spent time in Köln, Hannover, Berlin, Göttingen and Aachen. 95% (unsubstantiated estimate) of the cars of any brand I saw were black, white, silver and various shades of these. The "colours" I saw were always very dark blues or greens or browns. Of course, the pastel yellow Merc taxis really stood out. I did not see a Corrida Red or Dragon Green. Is that why were locals averting their eyes when I passed? :)

So, which came first? Customers simply don't want colour, or the manufacturers are not offering colour? I noticed some late model cars (usually VAG, but a couple BMWs) were sporting the Meteor Grey – sometimes with bright silver rims, sometimes with black. Also, the matte finish seemed to be popular, even on luxury brands, like Bentleys.

We're slowly heading back to Model T territory.

It's demand-driven IMHO. The Superb is a "serious" car rather than a "runaround" - hence people spec a "serious" colour. I suspect demographic is also involved (massive generalisation warning) - I have absolutely zero numbers to back this up but are the vast majority of Superb owners not middle class, middle aged and male? Like me:biggrin:

Middle class? I don’t like to admit it but by definition, yes.

Middle aged? No, not just yet.

Male? Just checked, yes.

Maybe be in a few years time i’ll fit the criteria for an L&K

Gertcha. Young whippersnappers in their Sportlines...

I'm trying to  have a nap here:biggrin:

To paraphrase, you're only as young as the steering wheel you feel.

I've graduated from two-wheels to four- wheels-and-two-seats to four-wheels-four-doors-and-four-seats. But red. Hell, I'm only 70!  :D

I could be described as middle aged, trouble is I'll have to live to 139 :D

Can’t bring myself to calling myself middle class more upper working class since the mortgage finished

I bought a cappuccino beige, due to lack of imagination (3 of our cars are this colour). In hindsight, with the photos and those Ive seen in the the flesh, I think brilliant silver would be very nice in hatchback form. White looks like a taxi and those dark dull greys are....just dark and dull. Black of course is the most impractical colour for anyone who actually wants to drive it anywhere, unless of course they love washing and polishing their car every second day.

Skoda are renowned for being an old Man's car, and in general that still holds true with the older models.

It amuses me to see thise 70 yr olds driving a multi colour monte carlo or a vrs (at 30 mph).

It's true that the testosterone urges don't hold the same sway over me as they used to.

I was standing in the sun a couple days ago, watching the Kwik-Fit tech backing my car out of the alignment bay. He had to do about a 10-point turn to get it out, the car park was so jammed. I waxed it a few days ago, and as he was slowly spinning my car around in front if me, gleaming in the sunlight, I thought that's a beautiful thing! So, here's a vote for red.

The only other colour I would have selected would have been the Dragon Green, because I like a colour. Something I can pick out in a car park. Black is beautiful, but you can not keep it clean for more than two hours. White on a car this size makes it look even more huge. And then you have shades of grey, which is what the Škoda configurator has become.

I know people tend to get more conservative with age, but I'm fighting it. I wear loud ties, too. (Well, I have one.)  :D

I wanted to choose Corrida Red on our SEL but they'd discontinued it... Replaced by Velvet Red - as a £900 option - and I refuse to pay that much for a paint finish on a car I'll only keep 3 years.  I like Dragon Green on the Sportline's too, but they look best in Red or Black Magic IMHO :) (black due to the de-chromed look makes them look quite aggressive)

If I was using my own money (I'm not because its Motability) then I'd probably go for Business Grey, but then Wrap it in a colour like Copper Orange or as close to Race Blue as possible, as I also like a proper colour, not a shade of grey, but I'd have to think of trade-in value when choosing the base colour before wrapping)

So as this seems to be a demographics thread now too...

I'm 44, male, married, a civil servant and have 2 kids and a Springer Spaniel. My wife drives a Yeti. Not sure if that makes us 'typical' or 'atypical' Skoda owners.

IMHO, white looks nice on Sportlines, 'cause the black trim offsets it nicely. On models with silver trim, less so. The colour I really like is the Petrol Blue and if it were available in Sportline I would have gone for it. Laser White for the win, but I would say that.....

@edwards - Think its time for a Wash + Wax  - but no doubt white is striking with the black trim

That was after 250 miles home up the A303 from the dealership on collection day! I have washed it a couple of times since and now its a bit warmer it'll get a bit of attention with some polish and wax :)

Agreed.  Both a nice dark shade and lighter shade of blue, on the Sportline would be great.

Audi seem to be pushing Sonoma green recently, using it as a 'launch' colour on a few RS press cars.  I think it would look great on the Sportline

You and I think alike, colour-wise. I saw a copper-orange XK-F and it looked great. I'd have a Race Blue Sportline in a second. The Corrida Red chose me, as it was already on the demo I bought. The colour looks deeper with a couple coats of good wax on it, but I would have preferred a deeper metallic red, which is what I'm guessing the Velvet Red is. I would pay for the colour I wanted – I figure on a purchase this large, you ought get exactly what you want. Thing is, I'm an instant gratification kind of guy, and wanted a car I could drive NOW.

I went back to the dealer after I bought my car and they had a Dragon Green Sportline on the showroom floor. I was sick with envy. THAT's a colour.

I like that Sonoma green, too. Not seen that before, and certainly not in Germany. There were a lot of new cars in @penguin17's colour, Meteor Grey, and matte wraps were popular.

@penguin17 already knows my view on Meteor Grey

I also would have liked to see a Sportline in Rallye Green (like the Fabias :) )  I've seen both an Audi A3 and my ex-boss' Fabia in it, and it looks very striking, think it would suit a Sportline Superb, what with the black trims etc

Don't get me wrong @freelunch - if I were buying to keep - then I would definitely get exactly what I wanted - paint included

Give it a few months and you'll be sanding off the top coat to reveal the primer.  It's the future.
