Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

OK, so I think I know the answer but could someone confirm you can't fit a full size 19" extreme in the spare wheel well?

I've just got a nail in a tyre, managed to get home without too much deflation but this has panicked me into getting a spare. What size do I need? 2014 vrs estate on 19" xtremes. 125 70 18 be ok? Thanks

The 19" Extreme wheel will fit, but sit slightly proud, maybe 10mm or so. Likewise with an 18" Gemini etc.

Someone on here has simply created a template that sits on the metal boot floor and fits around the wheel well, to raise the floor slightly.

I think they used foam insulation material IIRC.

You will need a minimum 18" spare for the vRS due to brake size (although I believe a 17" will fit some later TDI's as they reduced the front disc size during 2016 - never tried on mine though).

Any 18" VAG spare wheel with bolt pattern (PCD) of 5x112 and centre bore of 57.1mm should be fine.

HTH.

The wheel well will fit a 205 wide tyre (the carpet will sit on the tyres sidewall of cars with a 205/55?/16” spare), so if your car has 235s fitted then the carpet will be raised an extra 30mm, also fitting a ‘flat’ 235 in the wheel well will not be an issue but fitting a fully inflated 235 is normally a bit of a ball ache.

ive got a thread on it somewhere, i will be changing to an Xtreme and i have tested it does fit and its the same width as the gemini in this image, thats a standard spare wheel kit modified to fit the larger alloy, some cutting is required
