62 plate Octy, no Bluetooth, decisions!

Featured Replies

I'm collecting my "new" car tomorrow (2012/62 plate octy scout with curtain airbags, bolero stereo and no bluetooth). I've started to read the forum threads on installing the bluetooth module and microphone (and downloaded the pictorial guide), etc. So as I see it the options are:

1) Don't do anything

2) Get a Parrot kit and install that using a parrot wiring loom. - Does this lead to any problems that anyone knows of?

3) Get a microphone and a bluetooth module from somewhere and install them, then find someone local to code it for me (I'm in Knutsford, Cheshire if anyone is local-ish)?

4) Get another head unit with a car kit built in.

5) Get someone else to do it for me.

With option 2, does anyone have any experience of this & does it lead to any problems?

With option 3, what's the part number for bluetooth module that I need & also the microphone?

With option 4, which head units do you recommend?

Assuming that I do options 1-3, what do i need to be thinking about when it comes to routing the microphone cable around the curtain airbags?

Thanks n advance!

1. That would mean you then have no Bluetooth still.

2. Parrot kit, I wouldn't bother. Far better getting something which integrates fully with the car systems and controls.

3. Sounds like the option for me.

As regards running the wiring for the microphone and suchlike, took me half an hour or so to fit one in the son in laws car. Just make sure you don't run the cable for the mike over the airbag so that if it blows it doesn't interfere with that function.

Part number for the Bluetooth kit. Well, there's loads, all with different part numbers and supporting different functions like Bluetooth streaming, iphone and android differences etc. so it really depends what you want and what phone you have etc. I'm not sure at all, but something like a 7P6 035 730 M onwards would give support for most if not all features and phones.

Thanks Rustynuts. I'm going with option 2 to start with as I've already got a CK3000 in my current car (which I'm removing anyway) so it's just going to cost £7.55 for the appropriate loom. I will however be looking out for the Bluetooth module etc.

Next on the list is to find someone locally with the coding tools in Cheshire.

The Parrot kit will integrate fully with OEM Bolero stereo if installed correctly. I have the MKi9200 installed in my Scout and it has worked perfectly for the 7 years it's been installed.

What I would say is you'll know the battery in the controller is running low when it takes several attempts to make a call, but that is my only negative.

Do I wish I had selected Bluetooth Phone when specking my Scout? Yes.

But I'm more than happy with the Parrot and parts are readily available and reasonably priced if they require replacing and its plug and play.

Have a look at my bottom comments and you'll see my setup. Some people have placed the display near the hazard warning switch* but I'm more than happy where mine was positioned.

*1. I felt having it positioned near the switch it may interfere with using the hazards in an emergency.

2. It would stop me being able to use my my TomTom vent mount in the most suitable location.

HI,

I have just been through a similar exercise with my 2011 Octy VRS. I looked at the Parrot and Bluetooth option, but instead went for a replacement head unit (I had a Bolero as standard). I purchased a Kenwood DMX7017 DABS from Halfords, along with the loom and box that makes the steering wheel controls work. Total price was just over £500 including fitting. So far I am really pleased with it. I use Andriod Auto a lot and can't fault it. The sound quality of the headunit is very good indeed.

Cheers

Russ

Do you still get the AC and parking sensors displayed on that system?

You don't get AC. I am not sure about parking sensors, as I don't have them
