Spec Changes to Superb

Featured Replies

Well I ordered my car in October last year and received it last month so had the 'old' spec SEL. Given the price rise at the start of the year and also the increase in VED coming in next month then these extras would not have been at no additional cost and would have in fact cost me more than me paying for them as options at the time. So I am certainly not annoyed at having 'missed' out on the spec changes. Also the fact I now have my car and if ordering now would not be able to even order the car at the moment with possibly a 6 month wait for the car then I am annoyed even less (especially since the 'better' specced car would be costing me more and likely slightly lower power output to due to the GPF).

I specified the rear wiper and to me it does not spoil any lines and I find it very useful in keeping the rear screen clear allowing much better vision to the rear (if I do not turn it on I can see far less out the rear screen when it is wet than I can when I use it).

Yes. The 190 DSG FWD seems to have gone completely from all models range.

It looks like the Manual 190 FWD is only available in the L&K and SEL Exec now.

Otherwise its 4x4 DSG for the 190 across the board.

But then on UK web page:

pricing for Sporline 190PS DSG is given so i belive as adviced by Deealer current price list is temporary due to the fact that 190PS FWD version ar put on hold for production untill June thi year!

Reducing the range while they go through wltp (or whatever it's actually called!) makes sense. There have been reports of manufacturers reducing the number of model combinations in an attempt to keep the costs of testing down.

Skoda said they wouldn't be doing this but it has to be something they are considering from a cost point of view - there will be engine/gearbox/trim combinations that don't sell so well and are therefore easier to just stop making so they don't need to tested.

That's fine, until its the combination YOU want that gets dropped of course...

All the petrol engines shown in the press release are now discontinued as far as new orders are concerned. A handful of cars will still trickle through as previously placed stock orders or cancellations I suppose but I think they will probably have to be registered by 1st September when the new regulations take effect.

New petrol engines later in the year. I think they are probably 1.5tsi(150ps), 2.0tsi (Budack, 180ps), and 2.0tsi (272ps) iirc.

I've just been told by Skoda UK that petrol engined Superbs can't be ordered until week 40, 1st October.

How is the sliding boot cover (estate) different to what is standard?

I believe it retracts as the boot opens automatically.

(wasn't useful to us, so we didn't spec it)

Glad I ordered mine in Feb.  If I had waited a week longer then it seems I would have missed out and had a long wait and likely have gone for a Kia Stinger.

I had an order accepted in the last few days of April for a Sportline 280 through a dealer located in the south of England, via CarWow.  At that time dealers local to me were less than vague about whether orders could be placed, albeit they wouldn't match on price anyway, so I just bit the bullet on the assumption that some dealers were ahead of the game than others.

Has anyone else successfully placed orders for petrol variants within the last month or so?    if this is the case, then Skoda must have a big backlog of orders waiting to be built before opening the books again..?

I wish I had ordered earlier  , I struggle to get my head around WTF is going on with WLTP.  My car is (allegedly) currently in production this week, with the 272ps "upgrade".  That said, the brochure for MY19 is still not released, it has not been WLTP type tested, so I'm totally in the dark as to when I'll get my hands on it, as this has to be done before it can be sold (based on my understanding).

The 272 is/was heavily rumored to be paired with DSG7, but that doesn't seem to be the case for my vehicle, albeit I am assured it will be MY19 variant.  I have stated if its some half-way house I will not accept it, as that is not what I ordered.  I can't understand how something can be built, but they are unable to tell me what it is.

It's difficult to criticise the dealer as they seem to have no more information that is available online here.  The lack of communication coming from the manufacturer and into Skoda UK is woeful.  I've really been looking forward to the car, but the lack of clarity has spoiled what should otherwise be an enjoyable experience.

@Chas51 I'm in exactly the same boat as you. ordered as a 280, was told it would be a 272 (which i expected).

But they can't confirm if it'll be 6 or 7 speed DSG, or if it'll have the supernova alloys or the original vegas.

My order was questioned by the factory yesterday as it had 2 options they no longer do (wireless charging) and has now been fixed and pushed back through to the factory yesterday. Even Skoda uk can't tell me anything.

I just have to calm myself with - Expect a 6 speed with vegas and anything else is a bonus. :-)

I wouldn't mind a set of the gloss black Vega's that should be appearing as an option soon.

Sound advice @DjEatch  and good to hear I'm not alone!

The lack of information and long wait, however, fuels speculation/paranoia,  and makes me question whether I made the right decision.   They would do well to take down this link:  https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/180222-skoda-superb/

Oooooooooooooh, never saw that before :-) - did see the digital dash though (don't get me started on that!)

I'm sure the newer engine will be just as good (if not better) than the current one offered in the 280.  In the real world, you're likely never ever going to notice the bhp deficit over the current EA888 implementation.

I can imagine it's quite frustrating; ordering and waiting for updates from Skoda/dealers is hard enough without the current WLTP causing more noise and delays BUT...the 280 is well worth it and I'm sure, once you finally take delivery and take it out for the first time, all will be forgotten.  It's a bloody great car.

Hopefully the current XLR and FSR+/GTSBlack will be directly compatible.....

Many thanks for positive gee-up @penguin17, it's appreciated!

I'm also I'm the same boat. SEL exec 280 ordered. My order form says 272.

Skoda UK said it would be 6 speed.

My build week was supposed to be 34 and my dealer said MY19 started in week 31. I'm even more confused now if they're saying MY19 hasn't even started yet :D

DSG fuzz sounds strange. I ordered a 272 S3 on july, and dealer was 100% sure it is 7 speed DSG. The dealer had digital dash etc. 2019 extras strictly in his computer, official Skoda configurator still had 2018 stuff. Car is now in production so I am eager to soon find out what's what. I consider myself lucky because soon after ordering the 272 magically disappeared from the catalog and hasn't come back yet...

"100% sure" :giggle:  - hmm, probably based on comments from these forums!    The mystery continues...you could understand if it was a TV or some other kind of white goods, but when you are parting with anywhere between 25-40k, its kind of taking the michael out of your customers IMO.

I can only put it down to WLTP - they are not able to publish the product information until it gets type approval - albeit the Czech configurator currently reports 272/DSG7 - go figure :wondering:

My dealer called me today. He said mine was still showing as in stage 20 I think...

He said some petrol engines ie. The 1.5 engines and the 272 built between weeks 31 and 40 were being pooled together and delayed. All down to WLTP gubbins.

I know it'll be worth the wait but it sounds like WLTP is throwing a proper spanner amongst the works!

As an update to my previous post. Skoda UK called me today. Car is built but due to testing backlog I won't see it until the first or second week of November! Early Christmas present for me :D

Anyone looking further ahead the FL VW Passat will hit the UK next Spring followed by the FL MK3 Superb which as you know share many parts. The hybrid/petrol Passat will retain the 1.4Tsi engine rated at 154bhp but the electric motor is boosted to give 114bhp and thanks to an uprated 13Kwh battery electric range will be upto 44 miles. Emissions for company car drivers may be as low as 31g/km. Therefore when the Superb Hybrid arrives sometime next year it should have all this hardware under it's slightly updated body.

Bet you a quid it does not retain the 1.4 TSI engine.  The one that is being discontinued.  The 1.4TSI / TFSI in the questionable Co2 g/km Golf / A3 hybrid that sales of were stopped.

The Petrol Engine will be with a DPF, and that is most likely the 1.5TSI.

More Hybrids will be coming with the 1.0TSI.

Yeah I thought the Superb would adopt the 1.5Tsi engine in the Hybrid but VW confirmed it's staying with older 1.4Tsi in the Passat so logically we should expect Skoda to use those parts. As usual with Skoda we may be in for quite a wait until your pound gets distributed to a new owner!

They confirmed lots, and where are they now with the WLTP, what cars have they to offer for sale?

http://volkswagen.co.uk/owners/wltp

?

Any link to the Press Release or statement on the MY19 Passat having a 1.4TSI / Hybrid.

The Manufacturers might be thinking on anyway about importing Hybrids to the UK with Kidology Ranges without the ICE engine running.

No point if the UK Chancellor changes the VED & any Tax Benefits on vehicles that really are just low Emissions Under WLTP testing

but are polluting the Towns & Cities of the UK really burning petrol or diesel.

we will see what is said in the next budget or the one after BREXIT.
