Cheapo diagnostics won't talk to Octavia mk2 2010

Featured Replies

Hi, I just bought a Vgate plug-in scanner which, allegedly taps into Skoda diagnostics, not just OBD11, but it won't link with my Octavia 60 plate 1.6tdi. It shows the generic OBD codes quite happily so it's not that it's not seeing the engine, but it won't connect to the engine functions via the VAG setting (although it will connect to the airbag etc VAG diagnostics). I've seen a Youtube vid with this model working perfectly on an Octavia VRS of the same age so any ideas why it won't work with mine? Is there a particular protocol or something I have to look for? Don't know anything about these things, as you can probably tell.
Thanks for any insights, cheers.

What are you trying to achieve? I'm happy to do an autoscan with VCDS if that helps?

Nothing specific but thanks very much for the offer.  I've had quite a few strange things happening lately so thought I'd get a scanner to keep on top of thing so wouldn't have to take it to my garage all the time, so naturally chose one -- Vgate VS450 -- that is supposed to do more than generic scanners. But doesn't want to play ball with my car, sadly.

Have you asked the seller, or the manufacturer? They'll likely have a better idea about their product.

Yes, waiting for a reply. They're a Chinese ebay supplier, though, so I'm not optimistic. The original spec said it worked on Skodas and, as I say, a YT review showed it working properly on an Octavia VRS.
