What is this hole.... and boost pressure sensor question

Featured Replies

Hi all

So a bit of history, FL 2010 VRS petrol 95k miles.

I've had a slight misfire for about a month now but getting worse so thought I would look into it. Very bad on cold start up whole car shakes, but once warm idles fine. If I accelerate slowly its very lumpy again until the turbo kicks in around around 2.5k revs. If I accelerate hard it seems fine.

So I've checked spark plugs and the caps and they are both fine, which is about as far as my technical knowledge goes on this car to do with the engine. So lucky the local garage I get on with well, they have scanned my car quickly. No fault code are stored however there is apparently a strange reading coming from the boost pressure sensor so been told to take that off and give it a clean as it's something I can do.....

I know where it is but unless I'm mistaken I’m going to have to take apart some of the pipe work to get to it.... unless some of you lovely folk know of an easy way to get to it?

While I was having a little look under the car I also noticed an open hole in the bottom with a small bit of oil around the lip, looking inside I can see what looks like gear teeth, so my other question is.... should this be open to the world? It's not threaded so I'm guessing it's not a bolt come out but maybe should have a bung in it?! I've put some pictures in to help identify where I meant.

I hope this makes sense, I've been up quite a few hours now and seem to be rambling!

Cheers for any help!

its is where the flywheel is , you can see the teeth that the starter motor engages when starting the engine. The hole may/may not have plastic bung in it. Cant look at mine at the moment as it raining cats and dogs here.

If its sealed then any oil leakage from the gearbox or engine crankshaft seal  would fill it with oil and contaminate the clutch plate , so its probably meant to be like that.

Sorry for the double post!

Does anyone have any advice on getting to the sensor. I'm going to try and get at it tomorrow.

Cheers all
