Possible electric issues

Featured Replies

Hae anyone had any electric issues ?? I have a 2016 and a lot of errors have come up pn dashboard, gear box faulty, stop start syst error, electric handbrake error, autohold also, as this is still under warranty have to wait till monday to see what skoda say, anyone else experienced this?  please

IIRC Cheshirebumpkin had similar and was down to rodents eating through a wiring loom. Could be tiny field mice to rats or other critters. Its a problem with modern wiring insulation made from eco friendly soya derived products which mice love.

I myself had a problem with field mice wintering in my garage. Caused a lot of damage to shoes, and stored materials and they chewed their way into my locked Alhambra, fortunately an older car that had less attractive wiring.

Got a few trip trap humane mouse traps from ebay (and toolstation) and caught 4 in as many nights and relocated them far away in a snow covered field. Also blocked off a hole they had dug in the corner of the garage which is a concrete floor!!! (did they use power tools???)

Or it may be a duff battery.....

Thanks xman , its possible !? Although my car is parked overnight in a communal car space  in a lit up city area so not sure , im sure there's mice etc around though! Will hopefully get an answer monday

You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and see if this clears anything.

But do it the right way round.

Disconnect negative first and positive second.

Reconnect positive first and negative second.

Thank you AG Falco

Also leave the battery disconnected for about 10 minutes.

Thanks AG Falco

Jeez, I hope it's not mice like I had, but the errors sound similar. There's no sign of black woolly fibre floating around where you park is there? This was the first sign I missed, thinking it was an errant bit of sheep fleece from the neighbouring field. It was actually some chewed sound-deadening material from under the car....

No, I'm afraid not. It's not a manufacturing defect or anything like that so it fell to me to pay the bill. I realise some would argue the use of materials that are 'attractive' to mice would put some of the blame on VAG, but given that virtually all car manufacturers now use them and I'm not aware of anyone in the UK / Europe having been able to use this argument to get their repairs paid for, I didn't think it was worth pursuing.

If the damage had been more extensive (and costly), or had happened again (fingers crossed, not yet) I would have tried to claim on my insurance. As it was, I decided to pay the bill rather than pay the excess and inevitable hike in my premium next year.

Thank you just 1 last thing all the faults that appeared on my dash gearbox faulty, electric handbrake fault, stop start system error, come up when u start the car then go off once you turn it off and start again did this happened to you ??

What state is your battery in?  It’s not unknown for a failing battery to throw all sorts of curve balls at the computers on board.

Also worth allowing all of the warning lights to cycle before pressing the starter as it gives the systems time to boot up.  If they are mid-cycle when you hit the starter, and the battery is a bit low, that can also result in ‘frighteners’ from the warning systems!

Not quite sure what you mean to be honest?

I had this with the last Octavia (same engine) in France, didn't think about it at the time but cat/fox had been on the bonnet.  When we set off all sorts of lights came on, christmas tree sprang to mind.  I stopped, turned off the car, restarted and all was normal for a few seconds then all the lights came back.

A mouse or similar animal had eaten some small air tubes at the back of the engine.  Pipes replaced by the VW dealer in Cluses and all back to normal.  The cat probably heard it and was trying to get it.

Light won't keep mice away.
