Retrofitting, Coding, and Warranty

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of adding a few bits to my new Octavia:

Footwell lights,

Door Warning lights,

Mirrors go down when entering reverse

And a few more things. My concern is that this might invalidate my dealer warranty. Can anyone tell me if it would?

And if anyone has a tip on where to get the door warning lights with cables, I'd be happy if you could share a link :)

Thanks in advance

If you have an turbo failure then the fact you've added some additional lights shouldn't void your warrenty.

However, if afterwards you have battery, CAN or electrical faults then I'd assume they'd be less likely to fix them for free once they find your modifications.

Modifications to the configuration via VCDS or OBD11 are just changing existing functions & whilst also not officially supported shouldnt cause you warrenty problems.

the dealer can always reset the values to factory settings if they believe your modifications are the cause.

Solid, thanks Gabbo.

I asked Skoda Uk if a change to rear lights being on when DRLs are on and they said the warranty would be adversely affected, but wouldn't elaborate. Decided to wait til the warranty expires.

If you subsequently had a problem with the rear lights or something else caused by your DIY coding changes then you are unlikely to be covered.

However, if your turbo blows after the modification, then you should still be covered. They would have to explain the relevance of the failure to your modification to justify not being covered.

You can always "store" your original coding & put it back before you go to the dealer with warrenty issues.
