Noises!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've just bought a Skoda Octavia Mk 3 1.2 TSI.  Car has done 20k miles.  Skoda dealer has been less than honest about a number of things, and car was not as thoroughly prepared and checked over as promised.  Consequently I want to make sure that I get anything sorted during my 3 month warranty that may come up.

I have very sensitive ears, but there are a few noises which I wanted to check out:

1)  Deep throbbing/purring at idle (hear 1.mp3), not in time with engine ticking over

2) Tinny rattle (possibly gear related) heard when revving from idle and when driving in lower gears (hear 2.mp3)

3) Noise/whine at around 50mph - does this engine make a noise around this speed?  (although may possibly still be there when clutch depressed/engine not revving high)

Thanks guys.  I will take it back to the garage soon, but I wanted to go armed with some idea of what the noises might be.
