Skoda Octavias MKII VRS

Featured Replies

After two and a half years I am selling my VRS, previously owned by Chris (VRSerious) from here, and well loved throughout it's life.  Below I have basically updated his sale advert from a few years ago as it contains most of the information necessary!

The car is in very good condition, it has none of the usual issues that can occur with the Octavia's- no lacquer peel anywhere, airconditioning compressor is good (replaced 2016).

It has full service history, from various main dealers or independents in Chris's ownership, and with receipts to back up the servicing in my ownership which I have either done myself or had my 'friendly local' mechanic do.  I have serviced it every 10k or sooner in my ownership which equates to roughly every 6 months.

A new clutch and flywheel was fitted at 80K new thermostat 2014, cam-follower 2017 and BSH oil catch can and PCV blank.  Cambelt/water pump done 2016.

Polybushes to the front and rear of the front wishbones.

The car is running a Shark performance stage 1 remap with a STS (self tuning system) which means the map can removed/changed whenever you like. This has been on the car for 6 years and can say it was/is worth every penny, the car is very smooth and on the rolling road made 252bhp and 315 lbs/ft of torque

Other modifications include-

Whiteline RARB.

Superskoda lower front grill, colour coded.

Window tints from B pilar back. - Very small nick in rear glass tint

forge short shifter.

The leather suede on the front seats started to bobble so Chris replaced them both with FL ones, the seats are in excellent condition.

The gearknob was starting to look worn so Chris also replace that and the gatier with new FL ones.

The paintwork has real depth but has a few stone chips on the front and a couple of small parking dents on the nearside passenger front door.  There is a small scrape to the front bumper insert (pictured) which would be easily rectified at a paintshop as the insert can be popped out.  There is also a scratch to the rear bumper that I could not polish out.  There are no swirl marks on the car and it really does polish up a treat.  It has been treated very well and gets a full day of polishing and waxing twice a year in my ownership, with regular top up cleans in between.  I know that Chris's care routine was even more rigorous than mine so I can say with confidence you won't be disappointed with the paint condition.

The alloys have a few marks on them but are certainly not in bad condition and also there is a fifth zeith as a spare.

Four good Uniroyal Rainsport 3 Tyres, Fronts new around Christmas time and rears probably 4-5mm.  Full 4 wheel alignment last year (Twice, it still wasn't perfect the first time)

Plenty of Pad and Disc life left, all good brands (Brembo pads and discs front, Chris replace rear so I'm sure they were decent.)

Everything works on the car!

I will try and include as much information as possible but if I've missed anything please ask

I really take pride in my cars and this one has been amazing and looks the same, its only getting sold as I've got a company car now and the missus wants something easier to park for herself.

This has been the best car I've ever owned.  You would never know it is 12 years old or that it has done the mileage it has.  It drives as new, the paint is better than some two or three year old cars and the interior is mint.  I've used this for work it has never let me down or looked out of place.  It's not been ragged, and in my ownership has mostly covered very sedate motorway miles, with just the odd fun bit when conditions allow.  Whoever has this car next is going to be very pleased with it and I hope they keep it in the forum!  I have just had it professionally valeted so it is beautifully clean and parked up now ready for it's  new owner.

The private plate will be coming off the car in the next week.

Looking for £2250 which I think is a good price given the spec and condition.

My old car! I had this for 4.5 years and can say "what a good car" it was an ex demo hence being very highly spec'd for one of the first mk2's, maxi dot and factory xenon's.

I'm glad this is still going and hope the new owner treats it with the respect it deserves, what a car. (Shark used to use its rolling road read out/ curve in their advertising)

It's been an excellent car Chris, I'll be really sad to see it go!  Are you still running the two Octavias?

sent this advert to my dad, think this is right up his street . obviously Somerset is a long way from Nottingham ..but he is retired so.

if he doesn't go, good luck with your sale for an 06 it looks great!

Hi, is this car still for sale?

I'm coming out of a lease car and will now be commuting by train, hence looking for a station car during the week (hence not fussed about the scuff!), but something fun for the weekends, but the kids still need to fit in the back! I've got a few questions:

1) To be honest, I'm worried about the 150k on the car. Although it will mainly schlep to the station (6 mile round trip), I will need it to do a few longer journeys a month. Especially concerned about the oil issue with this TFSi engine. Any problems in your ownership (or Chris's!) and should I be concerned about the mileage (odd question, but you know the car better than me!). I'm not someone who will be doing my own bits on the car (a damaged Walkman c1991 put me off trying to fix anything myself!) but I do also have a friendly local garage who will look after it. Are there any significant bills upcoming based on its age and mileage that I should be aware of? When was the last major service in terms of date and mileage?

2) How do the front wheels cope with the extra power? Been reading on Audi/VW forums that this engine in an A3/A4 or Golf is too powerful for the FWD and tends to lose grip a fair bit? Also, have the mods affected your insurance choices? I know Adrian Flux is the go to place for modded cars, but is this 'too modded' for mainstream insurers?

3) OK, now for a completely odd question! I've now got 3 cars on my shortlist. This one, my old Subaru Legacy R Spec B (owned it from new in 2005 upto Mar 16, sold it, but may buy it back!) with around 115k miles and will cost around the same, or an A4 3.2 V6 Quattro 2008 with 92k miles which will cost just over double the other two cars. Which one (no bias!)?!

4) How easy is it to fit a Columbus Sat Nav to this? Have seen a couple around for c£200, but not sure if I need the MFSW too? May not be worth it if I can get a decent holder for my phone for Google maps!

5) Finally, how's your flexibility with viewings? I'm in Woking, Surrey, but happen to be at a meeting in Oxford tomorrow. I've had tremendous luck with silver cars, owned by people in Somerset who I have met for a test drive at Leigh Delaware! Doable? (bought a Volvo S80 V8 in silver having first viewed it at Leigh Delaware, and the chap was from Taunton too!)

Happy to pick this up on PM/text if the car is still available.

I'll step in and help just once with this.

Q1=Its had all the major things changed that wear-out on a car with this mileage, there is only the turbo but just check it for play!

It did burn a very small amount of oil but all the TFSI's do, it never caused me any issues in 4.5 years of ownership.

Q2=this is only on a stage 1 so very drivable and if you do find it hops, fit a anti lift kit for £150 but I always found it fine. Insurance will go up a bit and but again its only a stage one so loads of places will insure it.

Q3= This is a bit of an odd one as all three cars are completely different! subaru is a beast and a good car but the oldest of the lot and big big bills when it goes wrong! Audi is a nice car but you said it will cost double and also higher repair bills and then the skoda, a good car with high miles but fun to drive, reliable and cheap to buy, it's all personal preferance.

Q4= The car already has a newer spec cambus gateway so no battery drain and just a simple plug and play with the columbus, it will also show on the dash as it has a maxidot.

Q5= only Jake can answer that.

Hi,

If you do need any help with insurance then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

Chris, thanks so much for your answers, especially comforting over the mileage-sensitive components.

I know what you mean about the differences in the cars! I tend to love engines, and find a car that has that engine that I like. I loved the Yamaha V8, so bought one wrapped in a Volvo S80 (the aforementioned silver car test driven at Leigh Delaware!), I loved the H6 Subaru engine so owned a Legacy R Spec B for 11 years! I've never had a 'Golf GTi' Tfsi engine, so now could be the time, but I've never had a VAG 3.2 V6 either...! I think a return to the R Spec B is probably off the cards, especially as its the exact same car I sold 2 years ago, but with someone else's mods now on it!

Jake, if you're about, would be good to confirm that the car is still available? If so, would be good to get a chance to view it. Give me a call on 07748 961755 when you get a minute.

Chris, if I could bother you another time, there's a Columbus Sat Nav for sale in the parts section, by blackblock42. Would this just be a plug and play part for this car?

Thanks

Z

P.S. Would I have a problem taking the car to my local Skoda garage for servicing with the stage 1 map? They're just as cheap as my local garage and almost as convenient!

P.P.S. Dan, thanks for the offer. I'll definitely be in touch if it looks like I'm going for the car.

Also, Jake, do you have both keys for it? SWMBO will need one too!

The car and Columbus will need coding with VCDS to work correctly. It won't be plug & play.

I'm so sorry for missing these, I thought I was supposed to get emails to notify me! Oops!  The car has now sold, thank you for all the interest.  I think it's a testament to the car that it has sold twice in a row on first viewing at full asking price.

James (VRS-JTH) was a pleasure to deal with and I hope he keeps the car on the forum for a long time!

Thanks Chris for responding in my absence.
