BKD Inlet Manifold - Cleaning?

Featured Replies

In a couple of weeks I'm going to remove the inlet manifold and clean the tracts and the ASV /EGR etc.

I've got a set of gaskets on order from Darkside. What is the best way of cleaning the inlet? I know it's going to be very messy indeed. I've heard of using Parts Cleaner/White Spirit/Mr Muscle/Caustic Soda.

What works and what is a waste of time?  How to responsibly dispose of the waste liquid afterwards?

Any help/tips most appreciated.  Luckily the BKD seems quite straightforward to work on in this respect.

I watched this the other day:

Looks like they used oven cleaner. I know it's not a good thing to use on aluminium components, but the thickness of the components and the relatively short time it's in contact with the metal I don't think it's much of an issue.
