so it's about time for me to swap my discs and pads over

 

I was thinking about grooved and drilled discs, what are your thoughts on these? overkill?

No overkill - I have cross drilled and grooved on my Vrs purchased from MTec brake - car pulls up better than the OEM brake.

I was going to do it myself but my local garage said he would do it for £60 if I dropped it to him on a random sunday, I've not had a garage do any work for me for a while so is this a good price? sounds like it
