PAS problem

Featured Replies

Greetings all

I have a 2002 Fabia 1.9tdi which was given to me 2 years ago. It has done about 190000 miles. It has just developed a strange, intermittent  twitch in the steering. This pulls the steering wheel to the right under acceleration and to the left when I take my foot off. If I hang on to the wheel it will steer in the aforementioned direction, but held loosely the car stays on line. Every now and then (increasingly frequently) it will twitch in the same manner whilst travelling at a steady rate. The effect is more alarming at higher speeds. There are no warning lights showing.

The fluid level was a little low, but I topped it up -  with no significant change. There doesn't seem to be any play in the steering.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've done a lot of work on this car so I don't want to give up yet!

Console bushes?

Thanks. I had a quick look at these bushes and they looked intact. But they're cheap enough to buy, and I found a cheap extractor on e-bay so I'm going to give it a try, I'll probably not get to it this weekend but I will post the outcome as soon as.

Thanks again

Hello again!

I got the problem sorted last week, but I forgot to post the results. The console bushes were fine, but when I looked at the front n/s wishbone bush, it had a little play, so I looked at the other side and found it almost non-existent. On the recommendation of the mechanic down the road I got a pair of wishbones complete with bushes (less than £50 on e-bay) and that solved the problem.I ended up fitting a new console casting because I snapped a bolt getting it out, but other than that all went smoothly.

Thanks again for the advice.
