Steering Wheel Adjustment or lack of

Featured Replies

Hi does anybody else think that there is a lack of adjustment on the SIII or am I on my own on this?  :)

I am just over 6 foot tall and with the seat right back and steering wheel in it highest position seem to struggle a bit to get my left leg under the s/wheel when getting in the car.

Whould have like the s/wheel to have a bit more height adjustment than whats currently available.

Hi Wheelnut. I'm a short-**se so can't help directly, but I'm assuming your SEL Executive has electric seats? If so, have you checked it is as far down as it will go as well as being as far back as it will go? There are a few six-footers on here, but I've not heard of them noticing this.

I am 6 foot 4 and have not noticed the steering being too low and I do not think I even have it set at max height either.

I'm 6'1", I don't have my seat at the maximum rearward travel and I don't have trouble getting my left leg in.  I have the steering in the highest setting as I find it masks the instruments if I have it lower.  I would find the wheel is too far away if I set the seat to the maximum rear travel.  As a (recent) OAP and having had minor problems with arthritis for many years, I probably sit a little closer than most would.

My only quibble is that the wheel doesn't come far enough out and an extra inch or two would make all the difference.

Thanks for the responses.

Briskoda Jeff, you are right, I can & have lowered the seat a bit more to help with this issue.

Penpusher, as you say if the s/wheel travelled out more then, at with the column at it's steepest angle, this would increase the distance from the seat base to the bottom of the steering wheel.

To me though, there seems a fairly big gap between the dash & the s/column with the column in it's highest position and the lowest position seems so low that I don't think anyone would use it.

I don't think I had the SII s/column set at max height and reach as it obscured the clocks too much.

Anyway, once again thanks for your views, no doubt I'll be ok after a settling in period :D

Absolutely! I like to sit high up and don't have a problem with any other cars. But not only do I have a problem with getting my legs in but also the view of the dash is impeded by the top of the wheel.

Sitting low down like a chav peering over the bonnet is not an option with my bad back.

Another disappointing feature on the SIII.

For a minute there I thought it was only me that has this issue lol.

For a large executive car, the amount of adjustment is not all that great.  I could also do with the seat going back a tad more which would give me a bit more leg leg clearance and the passengers in the back wouldn't notice :D

I have the wheel set low. It only obscures the Speedo so that doesn't matter too much. :D

Well I think my driving position looks great.

Of course this was my previous Superb with the retrofit MFSW. The dealer swore it was OEM spec, but I always had my doubts.
