Help....Lost nipple in oil filter holder!!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need some help and advice please.

I am in the middle of changing my turbo and while checking that the oil feed pipe-to-fuel-filter was unblocked I managed to lose the small plastic nipple from the end of my charging bottle inside the oil filter. It's only a small piece of plastic (5mm x 3mm) but I obviously don't want it being pumped around the engine (could quite easily fit down the oil feed pipe and block it....how ironic considering I was only doing this to make sure it was unblocked).

I know it hasn't dropped down into the oil cooler part of the filter and I'm pretty certain it has not come out of the hole where the oil feed pipe is attached. Poking around I have discovered a further opening which I presume leads down to the engine block. I have tried flushing oil down the hole and then draining the sump but sadly no nipple!

Can anyone tell me where this hole leads to and therefore where I might retrieve this pesky bit of plastic?? I have thought about removing the oil filter holder but this is a bit of a faff and pointless if the nipple has gone down further. Does this hole lead straight to the sump or does it pass to the oil baffle first? A diagram or description of how the oil flows around the engine (especially in and out of the oil filter) would be very helpful.

If and when the turbo change is done and I started the engine without removing said nipple, where would it be pumped and would it get picked up by the oil filter?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
