Ooooh I wonder which shade of grey they will remove and which new shade of grey they will introduce.  Simply Boring.

  • I bet "dull grey" will be replaced with "boring grey"

  • It used to be a place for sharing knowledge, experience and seeking advices. Now it has gone into complaints over ‘nothing’, rejection of cars and lots of ‘negativity’ (not sure how that translates in

  • 2 weeks later...

My19 is wk31 this year for the Octavia. changed from Wk22 due to the new engines being introduced - Skoda CS have confirmed and I believe it applies to all models incl superb

Been told by dealer salesman that no factory orders are being accepted now for petrol engined superbs and the new petrol engined Superbs cant be ordered until wk 44 (beginning of Nov)

Don't know how true this is.

Best ask if they can confirm the WLTP results the Co2 g/km and VED Band.

If it’s true, it would knock a thumping great hole in their sales figures. Ditto with Octavia - that kind of delay would be disastrous unless they’ve built up stock in the system.

Petrol Octavia vrs will be back in production from wk 31.  Current backlog will take up to wk22 to clear so a 9 week gap of which the factory will be closed for 3 apparently. Not sure what’s happening during that time

Petrol engined Superbs can't be ordered until week 40, 1st October, I've just been told by Skoda UK.

Happens every year.

The factory does a "clean" and "maintenance" of everything, literally, that is used to stamp, paint and assemble the cars.

Usually also when the MY change over happens.

My dealer just informed me, that MY19 changes (DK) will consist off:

* Digital dashboard (optional)

*New colour, and another colour removed

*New engines (with GPF)

So all in all, not much.

Admitted the man with the new shade of grey! :D

:biggrin: and currently in ANOTHER shade of grey

I'm obviously just as boring.   Damn red costing £900!

A bargain compared to the cost of coloured calipers. And a small fraction of the total cost of the car. On the other hand, you appear to be right on trend with Meteor Grey according to what was rolling on the streets of Berlin. Mind, the only colour I saw in Berlin was tattoos.

And in meantime, we will hear all the monthly news stories from SMMT (and others) that car sales are down

What they wont say, is sales are down because the manufacturers have stopped accepting orders for the specs that some people are choosing, so they have chosen to turn away business.

Not sure what advantage closing order books has, compared to accepting orders now for deliveries in 6-8 months.  Maybe someone can explain this.

Also New Sales down, because they were not New Sales but First Registrations and the Manufacturers stopped filling Dealerships with Diesels to First Register and sell / finance as used cars.

Then the biggest Group Buyer in the UK which is Motability Finance now Motability Operations are not buying so many cars to lease as people lose DLA /PIP.

SMMT spokespeople are spin doctors that that play on figures and words.

I would imagine it is to do with the fact that they can only make a certain number of cars. If you fill up your order book for 8 to 9 months time now then you are then going to move to 12 months away etc. Where do you stop? As a business you then have to manage all the expectations of those people on the order book and if something unexpected comes up you then have to deal with the fallout. Probably better to close the books, clear the backlog and then have a manageable waiting period which is easier to predict problems within. To me closing the order books seems the tougher but correct thing to do.

That was my thinking, but I had a nagging doubt that during the closure period, you are effectively declining their business and inviting potential buyers to go to the opposition (and which you may never get back when they order again in few years) which didn't seem to make commercial sense.   I guess that is seen as preferable to having a filled order book for next few months.

PSM,

the order books closed because engines as are are being discontinued.

The new ones that will be in and on sale need WLTP results, VED bands confirmed / Co2 g/km published, people knowing what they are buying or leasing.

Cars like VW Hybrids with a 1.4TSI engine and fantasy emission figures if driven using the petrol engine and not the limited electric range.

The SMMT do not seem to be making the buying / leasing car public that aware.

As for the VW Group, they are happy saying not much. They are more worried about telling of what they might have sometime maybe rather than in September and early 2019.

That is true but I would imagine it is better to do that since if they can not wait until October to order the new car then they will not be able to wait on a waiting list for the next 9 months either hence you will lose them either way. By doing it this way they may go to a competitor but will probably still come back next time they change to see what you can offer. Put them on a long waiting list and then have a delay to annoy them further etc. could mean that you lose them as a customer from that point on for life.

Other manufacturers have closed order books, suspended build of some models / engines / drivetrains and have black hole ordering systems and customers and potential customers unsure of a build or delivery date.

Not only VW Group having issues meeting emissions / fuel efficiency / VED bands Business / fleet & even private Users might require for their new vehicle.

In my opinion, they simply don't have the WLTP results, VED bands confirmed  CO2 NOx etc as offski keeps reminding us. Each model variant is subject to testing, no more generic across the group testing. A new regulatory regime is being launched in June and lying will now be punishable by hefty business threatning fines, I've read even on a per car sold basis.

As for GPFs, they seem to be a work in progress at the moment and many manufacturers are still in the lab thinking about the problem.
